Returning New Internet Modem

I recently received a new internet modem because I was unable to connect to the internet. It turned out the modem was not the problem. The real problem was fixed, and I am able to get on the internet using my old modem. I would like to keep using my old modem as all my devices are already connected to it. However, I am supposed to return the old modem, or I will be charged. Can I return the new modem instead without any issues?

I would contact tech support and make sure both you and them are on the same page (i.e., make sure they document in the notes they keep for your account that you want to and are returning the newer modem).  The reason for the caution is if they expect device A with serial number X and you return device B with serial number Y their record keeping might think the old modem wasn't returned and charge you for it.  This is just my paranoia speaking.
