Return equipment packaging information
I have spent hours on the phone being transferred everywhere and getting bits and pieces of information from ppl. I am a single mom and finally cleaned up my credit and turned my application in to buy a home friday. I noticed today that my credit report shows a new collection from ATT that I didnt turn in my modem in 2019. I absolutely remember turning it in to staples after getting my return package paperwork from ATT. I remember doing it because I was angry having to wait in line so long and using up my lunch break. The shocking thing was the last lady I spoke with wouldnt even tell me the return address, where the package was sent to, so I could find the tracking information. You know what ATT facility. She said she didnt know, what? She is reading outloud my case information but becomes silent on important information. Told me that she knew more than what she was offering. My thing is why not help me with all information so that I can find the tracking. One guy said he saw part of a number and five X's before it. He was able to give the address to where the box came to ship. This $161 is like a million dollars to me because according to USDA you can not have paid any collection off within the last six months. I recorded the conversations and if I am unable to buy a home because nobody wants to help , I swear on God Im going to contact fedex and the manager of staples and find the day that I took it up there along with tracking information. The grief I have been through along with pain and suffering. I will seek legal advice!!!

Wait, what? You returned it to Staples? No wonder they didn't get it.
Equipment returns have been through The UPS Store for 10 years (and FedEx office as added as an option about 5 years ago).

Everyone read the "Rip Off report" I now know why each person I spoke to stated " all I need is a tracking number. Well if the pre printed lable ATT sent had a lable that offered tracking information, it shows information that makes it un-trackable. Being that my sister works for UPS Im going to see if the particular lable was scanned at staples on a particular week. I will get the word out about the returns and see how many others are out there. An attorney I will seek.

Please review Section 13 of the TERMS OF SERVICE. Specifically:
In the unlikely event that AT&T's customer service department is unable to resolve a complaint you may have to your satisfaction (or if AT&T has not been able to resolve a dispute it has with you after attempting to do so informally), we each agree to resolve those disputes through binding arbitration or small claims court instead of in courts of general jurisdiction.

AT&T hasn’t sent return labels in 10 years. You go to ups or fedex with your account number and they package and create a label and give you a receipt. Staples is not a participating drop off. Must be a ups or fedex office.

Regardless if it’s gone to collections then you need to deal with the collection agency

This matters not. The UPS Store and FedEx Office locations have a computer system that allows them to take your account number, confirm the device you're returning and issue you a receipt for your device, which you give to them unboxed. They pack it and ship it and it's not your responsibility any more.
Saying that you dropped the box off at a shipping drop off doesn't add any veracity to your story. The only exception to using the FedEx Office / The UPS Store process is if you don't live within 20 miles of one. But Tipton GA has a The UPS Store which has been there more than 5 years.

I was told that a package was arriving with a prepaid label. Putting it in a box and taping the label outside of it wasn’t difficult. It doesn’t matter what store I go to if they offer the services. It is sketchy to say the least that each person you talk to says different things about my account. Why the need to be secretive about the shipping label information if nothing wrong on ATT end? Also each and every worker I spoke to said that a refund on my account can be gotten with a tracking number. 💁 I’m like “ if you have in front of you my label information why not tell me what it is “ reason that can’t be done is because the label that issued isn’t traceable.

This happened in 2019, not ten years ago, even so I did what the rep told me to do. Apparently I’m not alone , many other people have been told to print label and mail. Same generic label of some huge warehouse third party hands and ship in bulk together along with a million other ppl equipment. It shows up on my credit years afterwards and I’d be glad to pay the little $161 with the creditor but I just put a application in with usda and you cannot have any collection accounts and you can not have paid any payments on a collection account in the past six months.
