Problems when trying to set static DHCP assignment to a device

In the LAN - IP Address Allocation section I am trying to set a particular device so that is always gets same IP from DHCP pool by selecting "Private Fixed: x.x.x.x" from the pull down for the device in question. When I submit the change the gateway just comes back with the message "ERROR" No other explanation. Does any one know how to correct this?

The GW I have is a 2Wire 3800HGV-B running software  6.3.7.42-plus.tm

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

I have seen some strange behavior from some of the 2Wire RGs that get fixed if you factory reset them.

If you have any special settings in the RG, such as other static IP addresses, firewall settings, or custom wireless settings, write them down so that you can put them back into the router afterwards. After they're written down, factory reset the RG using the Resets page.

Once the factory reset completes, go back into the RG and set all your settings back up, and the static IP allocation will probably work this time.

That worked, but da%n that is lame. Yet another reason that I hate these 2Wire gateways. A $20 router I can get at walmart has way more stability and configuration options that these things.

Hello, I have the same problem since yesterday I noticed 2 of my deives are back on non static IP. I just tried to set it back and I have done this many times since 2009. But yesterday it just wont set. I found your answer this morning. Question - what is 2wire RGs?  I have looked around at the gateway cant find it.
