Philips Wiz bulbs and my Fiber Gateway don't play nice
I'm so glad I found this forum, I thought I was going insane. I have the newest AT&T Home internet fiber gateway (BGW320-505). My internet worked flawlessly for 6 months. Then I installed nine Philips Wiz lights outside my front door and garage (Tunable White BA11 40W Equivalent Candelabra E12 Base Dimmable Smart Wi-Fi WiZ Connected LED Light Bulb).
I installed the Wiz app on my iPhone, connected all the lights to the gateway via wifi, setup a schedule in the Wiz app for the lights to turn on at night, and I thought I was done. Then the aggravation started. My lights would sometimes be on or off at the wrong time.
Then the internet connection to ALL my devices (PC, Mac, Roku TV, Echo gen4, iPads) would stop working. I'd get an error that the password was incorrect, or a privacy warning, or it would connect to the network but say "no internet". This would happen every hour, and I'd lose internet access for 10-15 minutes.
The tech support reps were terrific and really tried. We: rebooted the gateway, restored the gateway to factory, forgot the network on all devices and added it again. Nothing worked. Then a service tech that came to my home saw that my account/gateway wasn't fully registered. So, he completed the registration and that seemed to fix the connection, for about 2 hours.
Then I decided to turn off all the Philips Wiz lights by turning off the light switches that control power to the bulbs. Presto! Shazam! Huzzah! All my devices that had lost connection suddenly reconnected and everything works the way it should.
So, what now? I've seen the following suggestions in this forum:
1. Buy the WiZmote (remote control) and control the lights without using wifi (defeats the purpose of a smart bulb, and I'm out of town a lot)
2. Get a hub, connect the lights to the hub, then connect the hub to the Gateway (Philips did away with hubs by enabling the Wiz lights to work with amazon echo/alexa app)
3. Connect another wifi router via ethernet cable to the gateway and connect the lights to the new router (really?)
I've skimmed the advance settings for the Gateway but have no idea what to try, and I don't want to tinker. Please help.
