Opening ports 80 and 443
I am looking for some direction to pass on to a technician working on a camera system at our house. Please bear with me as I try to explain the problem (I am not proficient in the issues). We have AT&T Uverse, wireless receivers and a WAP. We have installed a camera system for security purposes that uses a windows based server to run the system. The technician has everything working and was trying to set up our mobile devices with an app that allows us to view the video feed remotely. However, he is unable to get the app to work because ports 443 and 80 need to be opened. We have purchased a static IP address from AT&T, which solved the problem when we put the system in last year (re-installed recently after a renovation). The only thing different from what we had last year (when remote viewing worked) was that AT&T came out to install another wireless receiver and while there replaced the modem with a newer one.
My technician repeatedly called AT&T service (talked with 3 different customer service associates; could not get tier 2 help) and got the same instruction each time on what to do, but it did not work. From what I understand, he is trying to install a router behind the RG and needs ports 80 and 443 open for the video system to use. He says opening ports 80 and 443 is not an unusual request and this should be a simple task.
Any thoughts? I am sorry if I am not providing enough information - just not my area of expertise. If there is some key piece of information missing, let me know and I should be able to get it from the technician.

If you still have the static address block from AT&T, then you should be using that address block and what my thoughts said about 443 doesn't apply. Are you still using that static address block for the camera system?

I've setup many DVR systems and setup the App so customers can watch the camera while away from home on their smart phones or tablets.
What I would always recommend is that you change the network settings on the DVR unit and assign a static IP. Say 192.168.1.200 and any decent DVR will let you set the port number to what you want, say 5700 and 5701. You then have to create a port forward rule on your router for those two ports to forward to the static IP you set on your DVR (and in this case it's unfortunately AT&T's router/gateway so it might be trickier to setup then how it would be on a Linksys or Netgear router). Also what brand/model is the DVR?

Ive added the port to the list on my router and it is going to the right device. I am able to connect to my website on the server locally from another computer on the local network so I know the server is working properly. But, when I try to connect to the website outside of my network, it is not open, and ping.eu says the port is closed also. Port 80 seems to work though. So how can I make port 443 work properly?

Hi @DatOneLefty,
We apologize about the issues, but we will be glad to help. Do you have any wireless receivers? If so, port 443 is used by the wireless receivers. You can get past this by unplugging the wireless receivers, clearing out the port forwarding rules, and then putting the forward rule to your device. If still not working check to see if the port is open. If you are on a windows computer, you can type in
netstat -a
into your command prompt to see if it is.

I use the Uverse router i originally received. It is running 2 Wi-Fi networks? Is this what is effecting it? Or is it my DirectTV systems that work wirelessly?

What Gateway do you have and can you check the firmware version of it? The port 443 reservation the OP was experiencing is only for U-verse TV clients with wireless receivers, which doesn't apply to DIRECTV customers.

Ah. That particular version of the firmware has an issue with Port Forwarding. It normally works for a short period of time after being setup, then fails to forward until a reboot. This issue is not limited to port 443.
Eventually AT&T will upgrade your firmware on the BGW210 for you to a newer version. If you do not wish to wait, there are threads pointing to a web server that contains alternate versions of the firmware and instructions on how to load one of them. Try using the Search facility to find one of them.

I have a BGW210-700 on fiber and all of my port forwarding settings work except for port 443. Port 443 is closed.I do not have Uverse and there are no other rules for 443. My firmware version is 1.7.17. Just got off the phone with support and they are sending a new BGW but I doubt replacing the router will resolve the issue. Any suggestions? It almost seems like an override is needed to allow 443 port forwarding.
