New Customer internet service

I want to order home WiFi with at&t but I don't need a router. I already have a at&t WiFi gateway router

What gateway do you have?  Did you have AT&T internet previously and not return the gateway?

AT&T internet requires the use of AT&T leased equipment.  If (and that's a big "if") they were willing to provision the unit you have, you would still incur the monthly lease fee.

I never had at&t internet in the past but I have a friend that did and he gave me the at&t gateway 2 in 1 router and I was wanting to use it as a new at&t customer so I don't have to wait on them to ship one to me. Can I do this?

Your "friend" should probably have returned the gateway to AT&T (unless it is an old gateway from the days that AT&T sold them to end-user).  AT&T may, or may not, accept your gateway for use, but as skeeterintexas said, they will charge you the monthly gateway fee.

Honestly, you're probably better off letting them ship you one.
