My own router?

Hello I'm getting confused with what I'm reading. Can I use my own wifi router with the RG NVG589? Is it as simple as turning off the wifi function and plugging the new router in? Any simple advice would be great...

Do not listen to ATT. A router behind a router with the NVG589 is not simple unless you have prior understanding of computer networking. If you don't have a friend to do it and save yourself the time and stress.

That being said here is a link on how to do it: http://forums.att.com/t5/Features-and-How-To/How-to-put-the-Motorola-NVG589-in-bridge-mode-or-as-close-as-you/m-p/3552057#M39255

The trouble with these directions is that you cannot follow the steps exactly. You need to know settings specific to your network, specifically and especially the IP address that your own router pulls from the NVG589.
