Low speed internet - DSL

I need to get my upload speed to a minimum of 3 Mbps - it's all over the place, dropping down to Kbps at some points.  I am trying to get a work at home job, but have failed the internet speed tests.  This is ridiculous.  I've unplugged everything, ran an ethernet cord directly to the laptop, moved the laptop close to the computer -- I'm running out of options and patience!  Chat was absolutely no help!

What speed tier are you currently subscribed to?

Is that the best you can receive?

ATT has three hardwired platforms…

The newest and fastest currently available to about 30% of hardwired addresses (18 million) within 21 state footprint is FTTP offering speeds of 300 or greater.

The most common is FTTN VDSL available to about 40% of footprint (24 million) with speeds of 100/20, 75/20, 50/10, 45/6, 25/5, and 25/2. 

The last platform is ADDL2+ covering the remaining 30% of addresses has download speeds of 18 or less and upload of 1 or less.

It sounds as if your in the latter group this need to consider a different ISP such as cable or relocate to an address where faster speeds are available or look for employment that is not work from home.

@my thoughts , you left out the older, tariffed, traditional DSL (ADSL) service that was available prior to VDSL2/ADSL2+.  If he has that, he is never getting to 3 Mbps upload.

So @trarae :

  • what is the name of the Internet service that you have? DSL Extreme?  Internet 10?  Something else?
  • Have you taken the step of connecting your laptop to your Gateway using an Ethernet cable to ensure it's not a Wi-Fi issue?
