iPhone 6 will not connect to ATT NVG589 DSL router after 9.2 upgrade
DO NOT UPGRADE iPHONE 6 TO iOS 9.2 IF YOU HAVE AN AT&T WIRELESS ROUTER
Verified the problem is certain iPhone 6's manufactured in 2014 updated with iOS 9.2 (and 9.2.1) and a hardware or software compatibility issue with AT&T issued Arris NVG589 wireless routers. Apparently AT&T is not yet aware of a problem or a fix.
- wiped network settings from two phones, failed to connect
- wiped and reinstalled factory iOS 9.2.1, failed to connect
- restarted and reset two individual NVG589 at two separate locations, failed to connect
- changed NVG589 SSID to all lower-case alpha-numeric characters, failed to connect
- changed NVG589 wireless password to all lower-case alpha-numeric characters, failed to connect
- connected to Linksys WRT1900 successfully
- connected to Dlink DIR601 successfully
- two other identical iPhone 6's still running iOS 9.1 connect to NVG589 successfully.
There is most likely a wireless chip vendor that has a certain logic coded into the chip used on a particular model that is incompatible with the latest iOS security settings and these AT&T routers, or the chip itself is failing.
