How to Connect Orbi Wi-Fi to an AT&T Modem
Trouble Setting Up Your Orbi?
These instructions will show you how to use the Orbi as your primary internet source. Please be aware, the Orbi does not replace AT&T internet modem.
The settings below are work in progress. We do not have official instructions, yet, so we'll need your help if updates need to happen.
Set up your Orbi as an Access Point
- Connect Orbi to the AT&T Modem using an ethernet cable (included).
- From a browser, go to orbilogin.com and sign in.
- Enter the router admin user name and password.

- The username is admin.
- The default password is password.
- Select ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Router/AP Mode.
- From the Router/AP Mode, select AP Mode radio button.
- Select the IP address setting. There are two options, the 1st is recommended:

- Get dynamically from existing router. The other router on the network assigns an IP address to this router while this router is in AP mode. (Recommended)
- Enable fixed IP settings on this device (not recommended). Use this setting if you want to manually assign a specific IP address to this router while it is in AP mode. Using this option effectively requires advanced network experience.
- Select Apply.
Once your Orbi is connected: Turn off Wi-Fi On the AT&T Modem
Disabling the Wi-Fi will prevent Wi-Fi conflicts between the Orbi and AT&T modem.
- Sign into your modem (You’ll find the access code on the modem)
- Go to Settings, then LAN, and select the Wi-Fi Tab
- Select Disable on the Wi-Fi Interface
- Scroll down and select Save (you may need to reenter the Access Code)

Google WiFi and Google Nest does work with our service. We have additional information on getting 3rd party modems connected that should help you get it setup.

Your price is significantly higher than I can by this unit elsewhere. Will this procedure work with any Orbi or do I need to purchase it through ATT?

Hi, so I've done the above, but now my internet speed is extremely slow via the orbi's wifi, down and uploads are only about 9mbs. How do I fix this?

Hi,
I have used my Orbi system for over 6 months with this setup. Yesterday the Orbi stopped working with ATT. I have reset everything multiple times and been on with ATT reps that say it must be a problem with my Orbi Mesh 6 system.
After factory resetting and reinstalling everything, I can get a solid wifi connection via Orbi, when the ATT router wifi is still enabled. As soon as I get to the final step of turning off the ATT wifi interface, after having Orbi in AP mode, everything stops working. At that point I can see the network from the Orbi system, but the internet no longer works.
My Orbi firmware has been updated and I am hardwired with an Ethernet cable from my Orbi router to the Ethernet out ports on the back of my ATT Uverse modem/router.

Will AT&T install Orbi for me? I know I can do it by my experience with internet providers is that if they don't install and there is a problem they always just pass the buck.

Probably not. And even if they did, I wouldn't trust them to do it correctly. As far as support goes, they will only support and troubleshoot their own equipment. In fact, most providers will only offer very minimal support (basic troubleshooting) for equipment that is not theirs.
Netgear Orbi Mesh systems are fairly easy to install if you don't have or need a complicated setup. I installed mine myself and it rocks (but, I don't have AT&T as my ISP).

Don't use ap mode...you need to setup up passthrough for your orbi unit. Ap mode is a waste for the orbi
