how do i separate the 2.4g from the 5g on my router

what is the best way to separate my 2.4 g signal from the 5g signal on my router? right now they have the same ID and password

Access your gateway (192.168.1.254), navigate to the wifi section, possibly click Advanced Option if your gateway shows that (or similar wording) and that gives you access to the 2.4 and 5 GHz settings.  If you  give the 2.4 and 5 bands different ssid (network name) and passwords you will disable the band steering (where the use of 2.4 and 5 are optimized), and then you can access the respective band by it's associated ssid.

You'd have to go into your gateway settings to change that info.
