DSL Internet Keeps Disconnecting Intermittently

About once a day my internet quits.  Rebooting the DSL router restores service.   Haven't been able to get support from AT&T via chat or phone because they can't seem to route me to the right persons for help.  Hope someone on this forum can give some hints on how to troubleshoot or at least the method to get through to AT&T.   Thanks.   Jeff

Hi there, jmcglaun! Let's get you working again.

To make sure that we are understand you correctly, you stated that you have DSL (Direct Subscriber Line), which is internet over copper wire correct?

DSL is very old technology, but it still serviceable. Since you have done all the recommended troubleshooting, we will skip that part.

Our next step is to bring you into a Direct Message format. There is a chat icon next to a bell icon at the top of the page. Our next message to you will appear there. Please look out for that Direct Message and follow the instructions contained.

Looking forward to seeing you in the DM's.

Thank you for using the AT&T Community Forums.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the response.  However, there's no chat icon anywhere on this page and I've had several other people look at this page and can't find the chat icon either.   Yesterday, I spent 40 mins waiting for a chat session only to be told that they couldn't help because I have a business account.   They gave me a phone number.   Once I dialed the phone number, the automated voice requested a 13 digit account number.   The account number on my bill is 9 digits and the voice prompts won't let you go further unless you have 13 digits - in summary, no support service.

This is very frustrating: 40 mins on chat (no help), trying to get through on the phone (not possible without an imaginary 13 digit account number), and now you tell me to look for the chat button that doesn't exist.

This is extremely poor service because I've spent a lot of time and haven't even gotten to the point where someone can troubleshoot the problem.

Jeff
