Connecting your Amazon Fire TV/Stick
Amazon Fire TV brings a world of entertainment to your house. Find out how to get it connected.
Connect your Device
- Turn on your Amazon Fire TV/Stick.
- Select Settings from the menu.
- Select Network. The TV automatically detects nearby networks.
- Select your preferred network.
- If your preferred network is not displayed:
- Select Join Other Network.
- Enter the network password, if needed.
A network confirmation message displays.
Tip for Fire TV Stick: We recommend using the HDMI extender or adapter included with your Fire TV Stick, which can optimize the physical location of your device and improve Wi-Fi connectivity. Also make sure to use the power adapter included with your device for optimal performance.
Troubleshooting
- Restart your Fire TV/Stick by unplugging the device, waiting 40 seconds, and plugging it back.
- Restart your Gateway.
- If connected wireless, try moving the router or Fire TV/Stick around to avoid any other devices that may cause interference.
- Issues with a specific App:
- Select the effected App
- Clear the cache and/or data, which often resolves intermittent performance issues. Clearing data doesn't delete the app itself but may delete saved information (like account details or game scores).
- Change available settings for the app.
- For Amazon Fire TV devices, you have an option to move the app between internal and external storage.
- Force stop the app.
- Uninstall the app and then Reinstall the App.

Hi David -
I am helping my father-in-law connect Wifi via DirectTV. We know that the wifi works, as we have been successful with his password when connecting to DirectTV via the wifi. So far, good!
However, when we plug in another device (specifically, the Amazon Firestick), the wifi does not seem to be found. Any advice?

@ATTU-verseCare
Instructions need to give specific guidance for connecting via 5GHz radio.

I’ve done everything that has been suggested to connect my fire stick and echo dot to my WiFi but it hasn’t solved the issue. What should I do now?!

The security of the AT&T Gateway can often conflict with smart devices that connect to other devices on or outside your network.
Due to this, we suggest setting up port forwarding so that your devices are able to stay consistently connected to the network. You can begin to start the process for setting up port forwarding to your devices by using the article we previously provided and selecting the model of AT&T Gateway you own, following the displayed steps.
If you are still not able to connect, please let us know if you are receiving any type of error message, or if other devices are able to connect to your network. This will help us determine whether its your Gateway's configuration that needs adjusting, or if you will need to reach out to the manufacturer of those devices for assistance.
Let us know if you have any further questions!

@Nails1beth Please start your own thread and whatever you do, ignore the advice that ATTHelp Donovan just gave you as it's got absolutely nothing to do with connecting those devices via wifi.
In your new thread please outline what you've done and what error messages you've seen. What AT&T gateway do you have?
