change the frequency on my router from 5 to 2.4ghz

On my previous personal router I ran it at 2.4ghz with Spectrum but since I have had ATT U-verse installed it runs at 5ghz and although it

shows great internet speeds our iphones and ipads download very slowly. I would like to try 2.4ghz

You probably have a dual-band gateway with both 2.4ghz & 5ghz radios, operating in band steering mode with both networks sharing the same name. This allows each device to connect at it's best supported frequency- 5ghz if supported, otherwise, 2.4ghz. Not all devices handle band steering well, although the Apple products usually do. If you suspect problems, you can rename each network to something distinctive, so that you can purposefully select 2.4ghz or 5ghz for each device. For instructions on doing this, take a look here. Be sure to select your correct gateway model from the drop down.
