can I use any modem/router combo with my AT&T internet?

I've heard that AT&T recommends you use their brand of modem/router and not another mfg like Netgear or Linksys. My AT&T modem/router combo is coughing up a hairball and I need to replace it. Wondering if I can easily use another mfg's product or do I have to use AT&T's.

Depends on the type of service/connection you have, but generaly, as long as you verify the not AT&T brand of moden suports the connection, it SHOULD, and I say that tentativly, work.

My own personal experiance, I just signed up for dsl service (yes, they still have them in Florida) and used a q-link modem from Staples that supports adsl2. So far, it is working just fine.

Good luck.
