AT&T Wi-Fi Extender (AirTies 4971)

Tired of Wi-Fi dead zones? AT&T Smart Wi-Fi Extenders connect to your Wi-Fi gateway, creating a mesh network that extends your Wi-Fi signal to more areas of your home. You can stream music and videos with less buffering, on more devices, and in locations you couldn’t before. You can order one online.

If you already have one, but need another, the great news is that the AT&T Wi-Fi Extenders are backwards compatible.

Check Wi-Fi gateway and extender compatibility

Smart Wi-Fi Extenders only work with compatible Wi-Fi gateways. The 4971 is compatible with the following gateways:
  • BGW320
  • BGW210
  • Pace 5268

Installation & Troubleshooting

Installation is super easy with Smart Home Manager. Visit the site or download the app, and follow the instructions for setup. If you still have questions about the install, get more information on our installation guide

If you notice issues with your Wi-Fi extender, the light on the front of your AT&T Wi-Fi Extender tells you what it’s doing and how it’s performing. Learn what each light means.

Finally, when you're ready to get connected, we have help for everything you may need to setup your Wi-Fi Gateways & Equipment.

Will I be able to purchase the AirTies 4971 in order to extend the BGW320-505 gateway/router or is this a lease only device?

We are here to answer any questions that you have about the Wi-Fi extender, @.

You should be able to purchase the extender outright. If you go to Order One Online at the top of the article, you can get started.

You can also use the Smart Home Manager App to order a Wi-Fi extender. After you log in, you can check your home network Wi-Fi coverage and there should be a message that pops up about the Wi-Fi extender if you need one.

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks!  The link says 'Not Available' and the app pushes me into a $7/mo plan.  I'll give it more time.  These are pretty new gizmos.

Marc,

Pointing us to useless, outdated and inaccurate web pages is not helpful.

When you click on the "Order One Online" link, it takes you to an ordering page for an unavailable product.  Besides, the product shown on that page is the AirTies 4921.  Basically, you are telling us the AirTies 4971 Wi-Fi 6 Tri-band product is NOT AVAILABLE.

Do you have an estimated date when it will be available?

Question - will these devices have better range and less drops than the previous 4920 & 4921? It seems they last about a year and then start to get flakey and drop. Are there other extenders that can be used? Or are we locked into the AirTies because the AT&T fiber is a closed system? It is really not fair that they warranty our a single faulty one, and make you pay for the second one - had to do this twice - and the are not cheap.

Has anyone had experience with the new ones? Better range? Less drops and flashing green/red lights?

My extender is not showing up on my home manager app. Does anyone know what to do?

When is this item really going to be available? The link you posted is a total bust, as it clearly says "Isn't available" and even the link supposedly pointing to "view similar devices" is dead as a doornail! Even on the Amazon page it says "Currently Unavailable", so what gives? Why on Earth would AT&T both tout and advertise this device if it's in fact and in reality, not even being sold? That seems a bit deceptive, to say the least! So what's the deal here, if somebody really needs to buy 1 of these things? What's the big hold-up on 'em? Details, we need some (accurate) details here., please!

Why does ATTHelp post things that are constantly wrong?  Who knows.

The reality is that AT&T is not SELLING the Airties any more.  Some bean counter decided that a one time $50 purchase wasn't good enough.  So now they'll LEASE you the Airties for $7 a month.

Of course with the always user-friendly website that is att.com, I can't actually find where it is that you can place the order online.

Wait, why not just sell them like they used to? I mean, it's only a crummy little range-extender! Why is the information on their website inaccurate then also, leading you to believe that you can buy an AirTies 4971? (Amazon lists them as well and simply says "Not currently available" or words to that effect, without further explanation) Nowhere do they say they're no longer for sale, as in permanently. And if they are going to shake you down to the tune of 7 bucks a month ('way too much, especially with the fee you now have to pay on the U-verse modem) where on the AT&T website can you place an order for rental? This is obviously a self-install kind of deal so a "truck roll" would not be required. We need some additional information about this fiasco, to be sure...
