AT&T Network Blocking Steam

Hello,

I recently got home internet from AT&T, but no matter what I do I cannot access Steam on the network.
I verified it was a network issue. I tried to access the Steam application and website on both my phone and computer, and neither can connect but I have no problem with any other task requiring a network connection (internet searches, YouTube, games not on Steam). I went into my router settings through my browser, disabled every firewall, and saved my configuration, but none of my devices can access any Steam-related server or website. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

My suggestion is to unload your home network and work with Att to ensure service to your gateway is working to their satisfaction.  This includes having them perform a line quality test.   If everything checks out, then you'll need investigate your home network and devices.

I can assure you Att does not block Steam.

Thank you for reaching us @cw123903753,

We hear you, and happy to assist you!

We recommend that you use Smart Home Manager application on your mobile device and check if the Steam website is in the blocked list.

Download the app from the Apple App store or Google Play store. Or, manage your network using Smart Home Manager from your computer.

To check for the blocked website on Smart Home Manager please follow the below steps:

  1. Open Smart Home Manager and sign in.
  2. On the top right corner, click or tap on the three-dot option.
  3. Then click on 'Website Blocked' to check if Steam is on the list or not.

For better clarity please visit our forum thread.

Let us know if this helps.

For further assistance, we are always here to help!

Hello,

I have the Smart Home Manager app, I just tried to access Steam on my computer to see if I would get a website blocked message on the Smart Home Manager app after clicking on the three dots and there is no message about Steam being blocked. Is there anything else I can try?

Hey there cw123903753,

Thank you for contacting us on AT&T Community Forums! We'd be glad to help you access Steam.

To unblock the steam website tap the block notice for that site, and you should be given the option to Allow Access.

After opening Steam what happens when you try to access? Do you get any error messages or codes. Also, let us know what AT&T Gateway do you have?

Depending on the model of your Gateway you could put your game console in IP/Passthrough mode or DMZ+ mode.

Learn how to configure your gateway for IP Passthrough and DMZplus.

Please let us know if this helps.

Happy to assist.

I don't receive any block notice for it on the smart home manager app, so I don't know where else I could look for that message.

When I try to open the application or access the Steam website, I just time out. On the application it only lets me access offline mode and gives me an Error Code 118 and on the website it says that the site can't be reached due to taking too long to respond. But every application and websites other than Steam work.

I have a BGW210-700.

Thank you for reaching back to us @cw123903753. We understand how it makes you feel, and we're here to guide you!

We appreciate your efforts, please find the link about the ActiveArmor internet security and how it works.

AT&T internet security scans traffic for dangerous websites. Sometimes a webpage that you know is safe may trigger a blocked notification. If you trust the page, you can select Allow Access to add the site to the exceptions list in  Smart Home Manager.

Good to know: When you add a page to the exceptions list, you won’t be warned about future threats from that page.

If you do not find the website been blocked, then you might have to check with Steam support to see if there is any on going issue with them.

Feel free to write us back. We're always here to help!

Hello,

I am having this issue with more websites than just steam, even my university's website while some sites remain unaffected like Youtube. Every time I try to access some of these sites it times me out and doesn't send any notification to my Smart Home Manager, while still maintaining an internet connection for other sites. I do not have a subscription with the ActiveArmor service, so would it still be possible that is what is causing the issue? Is there anything else I can do? Thanks.

Hi @cw123903753,

We understand you, and we're glad to help you get access to those websites.

As said earlier, AT&T Internet Security scans traffic for dangerous websites. Sometimes a webpage that you know is safe may trigger a blocked notification. If you trust the page, you can select Allow Access or to add the site to the exceptions list in Smart Home Manager.

You may want to look at our community threads on how to unblock the websites through Smart Home Manager.

Let us know if you were able to unblock the websites!

Factory reset your gateway and report back.

Factory reset complete, still no change in blockage.
