ATT Fiber Required Equipment

ATT's Fiber network looks like a great deal for me, however they require all their fiber customers to use their Gateway, of which they only have one model available. I cant for the life of me find out why its required, except for the classic ATT reason of "(Edited per community guidelines)you pay me more money".

The Gateway in question does not have a true bridge mode, so ostensibly every ATT Fiber customer is using ATT's modem to handle all their security concerns.

How is this not a ludicrous privacy/security concern?

How is this practice even allowed? Its transparent anti consumer and anti competition.

Finally has anyone found a clever way around this requirement?

 A.  There is no way around the requirement that you use THEIR equipment.

B.  Said requirement is in the TOS.

3.  Why do they do it?  Because they can.

If you use IP Passthrough then the security is handled by your own router.  In certain circumstances there are ways to bypass the AT&T gateway but since it's not authorized the subject is not one discussed here.  Google is your friend.
