Asus Router

Hello, I am asking if I could connect the ASUS TUF Gaming WiFi 6 Router (TUF-AX5400) to my AT&T U-Verse Pace 5268AC FXN Gateway or do I plug it in directly into my laptop. I am new to this tech and really need your help.

Will it give me better wifi? Or should I just change my network provider cuz I am looking for a low ping when playing video games.

Hi there, paniniredpanzer! We sure do love our gaming community. Let's get you the help that you need. 

 

We have found a great forums article that will help you setup your 3rd Party Device to your internet service. 

 

In that article, you see a section for Third Party Routers. There is a link under that title for the Pace Router. That link will direct you another forums article, with the accepted solution for what you are trying to do.

 

If there are any internet connection concerns, remove all 3rd party devices from the AT&T equipment and revert back to just the Pace router and your laptop for troubleshooting. 

 

To get you started, here are the first few steps:

 

1. Set your router's WAN interface to get an IP address via DHCP.  This is required at first so that the 2Wire recognizes your router.

2. Plug your router's WAN interface to one of the 2Wire's LAN interfaces.

3. Restart your router, let it get an IP address via DHCP.

4. Log into the 2Wire router's interface.  Go to Settings -> Firewall -> Applications, Pinholes, and DMZ

5. Select your router under section (1).

 

Steps 6-14 are listed in the accepted solution, in the aforementioned Pace Router link above. The steps are provided by @SomeJoe7777.

 

You did mention about you wanted low ping, so we will provide information to help you with that as well. This article: High Latency & Ping - What You Need to Know, will help you in case you run into any latency and high ping.
