Asoka adapter not working

I have an Asoka ethernet adapter connected to my desktop computer.  But it has stopped working.  The lights on it are green though.  But I'm not receiving internet through the wire.  Do I also need to have one of these adapters connected to my router as well?  Because there isn't one there.  I'm wondering if it got removed because we didn't realize what it was for? Do I need to purchase another one?

Is this a powerline adapter?  If so you probably need two units, one at each end of the powerline. That means one at the router plugged in to a n ethernet port, and one at your computer. What they are doing is creating an ethernet connection but using the power lines in your house instead of having to run an ethernet cable.

Of course you could just use a wireless connection if you have good wireless coverage, but it sounds like you don't otherwise why would you have used the powerline connection with your previous router.
