AirTies 4921 wi-fi extenders stopped showing up on Smart Home Manager, unable to reconnect them

I have two AirTies 4921s in my home and they've worked perfectly for about a year. About a week ago we noticed our wifi signals were getting weaker and couldn't figure it out, until I looked at the Smart Home Manager app today and realized that both extenders are missing from the network. I tried re-pairing both via ethernet cable but the pairing always fails and I can't figure it out. I've factory reset both devices, let them update (blinking amber light on the front), and tried to re-pair them with our router but I can't get it to work. Is AT&T bricking these so that people buy the new 4971 extenders instead?

We're here to help get your extenders connected, technofolklore!

AT&T is not bricking or stopping AirTies 4971, 4921, and 4920. We are still updating and providing support for all of them from our end.

For now we suggest restarting your AT&T Gateway, as this will refresh your connection to the network. Since both extenders stopped being able to be paired at the same time, this points to something we need to resolve within the AT&T Gateway itself.

Let us know if this helps!

I’ve tried unplugging the gateway and letting it boot up, resetting it manually via the button on the back, and restarting it via Smart Home Manager but none of those options seem to help. I also have some devices hardwired to the extenders which are still able to connect, but the extenders don’t seem to be able to pair with the gateway via wifi or ethernet.

I have the exact same problem in that my ATT 4921 extenders won't connect with the Gateway.  Could you send me a direct message so we can get this fixed?  Thanks!

This just started for me too!

The one hardwired in is fine.  The other one is not listed on Smart Manager.  It shows 3 devices on Smart Manager in Network hardware but when you expand it it only shows 2 of them ( gateway and hardwired extender).

I've reboot, reset, etc... Event the wifi extender shows solid green like its there.

Please help.  Seems like others have issues also.

Same thing is happening to me.  Plus those 4971 they make you pay per month.

It's becoming more and more clear based on reports like this that the AirTies are not the most robust devices.  I stopped recommending them quite some time ago even though some people swore by them.  Now more seem to swear at them.  Time to move on to a different solution, whether that be a third party router or a mesh wifi setup.

My system is 2.4 and 5.0 separated since I have a few things that only go off 2.4.  What i liked about the AirTies is that it was from ATT and is seamless went on to the the same wifi name.  What is a good product to use with ATT since they have been screwing around with the whole system.  Even login info is absolutely horrible (a whole other issue)

To begin with, AT&T doesn't recommend disabling bandsteering (separate SSIDs for the two bands) when using AirTies so that could be your problem.

As far as other systems, I don't like to recommend third party routers and wifi systems just because everyone's home situation is different.  I've gotten burned in the past by saying get xyz because it worked great for me and it ended up being not so good at the other person's house.  So I usually say look at tech website reviews and find something in your price range that gets good reviews and try it.  If you buy it from a place with a good return policy you're safe if it bombs for you.

That being said, nothing you can buy will be plug and play, there will be some configuration needed.

Funny, the tech did that for us.  Been working years.  Then just the other day like the others.  For example my ring door bell and ac only work on the 2.4.  Causes issues when combined.  Look like this has been a issue all over the internet on ATT blocking the unit.

If the commenters above fine a solution please post.  ATT kicks me out of my email every 2 days by having to create a new password (that thread along on this forum is crazy)

Appreciate it.
