What model gateway do you have? Most recent gateways (599, 5268, BGW210, BGW310) are dual-band units, meaning they supply both 2.4 & 5g wifi on the same SSIS in a band steering configuration. Some devices have problems isolating the 2.4ghz signal in this arrangement. If you have this situation, you’ll need to rename one of them to something unique. Access the gateway using 192.168.1.254 from a connected device. Find the Wifi section under Home Network. You’ll need the Device Access Code (DAC) from the side of gateway. Enter ADVANCED OPTIONS to change the the wifi network names; adding '-5G' to the 5ghz radio will work. You can also change channel number and other options from here. You'll then see two separate wifi networks to choose from. Be sure to save the settings, new settings take effect in less than 2 minutes.

We're here to help that @kkhaddock.
We understand your needing help with connect your device that only takes a 2.4 connection.
1. First thing you would need to do is make sure you disable band steering on your gateway.
2. Also, you would need to make sure the SSIDs are not the same when doing so.
Please let us know if that works for you.
