$150 Gateway Charge

Hello everyone,

I was recently charged with $150 after not returning the device, I have had almost no time to return this, very busy schedule, and the representative when i cancelled my service told me nothing would happen if i dont return it other than a reminder. I received no reminder, still have the device, and a $150 charge, there is no way I am paying $150. If I send it via fedex (as instructed) will the fee be dropped?

You have a window between 21 days (when you are charged) and 6 months (after which they will no longer remove the charge) during which you can send it back to have the charge removed.  The charge may be reported to credit reporting agencies and you may be unable to start any other AT&T services until it is paid off, so I think "nothing will happen" was a pretty poor characterization.

f.Return of AT&T Equipment:

Except as otherwise provided, AT&T Equipment must be returned to AT&T undamaged, within twenty-one (21) calendar days after your Service is terminated for any reason. If equipment is not returned within twenty-one (21) calendar days, or is returned damaged, you will be charged a Non-Return Equipment Fee. We may retain any advance payment or deposit, or portion thereof that previously had not been refunded, if you fail to return the AT&T Equipment within this time period. If all AT&T Equipment is returned within six (6) months of termination, any fees charged for such AT&T Equipment will be refunded (other than fees for damages). No refunds will be made for AT&T Equipment returned more than six (6) months after termination. This Paragraph also applies if your existing equipment is replaced or upgraded for any reason.

We'd be happy to address your inquiry about the equipment charge, ben51289.

As JefferMC mentioned, there is a 21-day window for the equipment to be returned, from the date the cancellation order was placed. Failure to return equipment in that time frame will result in an equipment charge of $150 per unit. Learn more about How to Return Equipment here in the Forums.

If you need help with anything else, we'll be here. Thank you for visiting the AT&T Community Forums.

Sigh.  I don't see what wasn't clear in my very first reply.
