Yahoo Terms & Conditions Change FAQs

EmailSupport.png

Why did I receive a pop-up or an email notification from Oath about the Oath Terms of Service?

AT&T and Yahoo (at the time) work together to provide email related services. Oath is updating its terms of service because in 2017, Yahoo was acquired by Verizon, which combined the Yahoo business with AOL and formed a new company, known as Oath.

What do I need to do?

Review the updated Oath terms of service and decide whether you choose to accept. If you choose to accept their updated terms of service, your AT&T email will continue to work as it does now.  If you chose not to accept the terms of service, your AT&T email will continue to work as it does now, but in the future your service could be impacted.  We do not know when or how it may be impacted, but you can visit Oath’s FAQ page to learn more.  The full URL for the Oath FAQs is https://policies.oath.com/us/en/oath/privacy/guce/faq/index.html

Will my email address change?

No, your email address will not change.  You will still be able to utilize your email address as usual.

Will my email account maintain the same functionality?

Yes, you can still send and receive emails, as well as access all other mail-related features. You can keep using your existing email address to send and receive emails just as you do today.

Do I need to cancel or modify my AT&T email service?

No, there is no need to cancel any AT&T email service. It remains active and functional.

Will this Terms of Service announcement from Oath affect my ability to sign in to att.net?

No, you’ll continue to be able to use your email address to sign in to att.net.

Is there an option for me to not accept the Oath Terms of Service?

Yes.  When you receive the pop-up entitled “New Privacy and Terms,” you have the option to not accept by clicking on “I’ll do this later.”  And when you receive the email notification from Oath, you have the option of not clicking the button called “Review and agree now,” closing the email and disregarding the message.

What happens if I choose not to accept the Oath Terms of Service?

If you chose not to accept the terms of service, your AT&T email will continue to work as it does now, but in the future your service could be impacted.

Is there a way for me to opt out of having Oath use my email data for targeted advertising?

Yes.  If users want to opt out of having their email data used by Oath for targeted advertising, they may do so.  Users can do this by hovering over the ‘gear’ symbol in the upper right corner of the mail user interface on a PC or Mac, clicking on ‘About our Ads’ and then clicking on ‘Manage interest-based advertising categories, or opt-out of all categories, from Oath’.  This will take the user to the Yahoo Ad Interest Manager page, where the user can select the Opt Out button.  The full URL for the Ad Interest Manager webpage is https://aim.yahoo.com/aim/us/en/optout/.

What if I have questions about the provisions of the Oath Terms of Service?

For more information please visit Oath’s FAQs.  The full URL for the Oath FAQs is https://policies.oath.com/us/en/oath/privacy/guce/faq/index.html

If I accept the Oath Terms of Service, must I do so on each device that I use?

No, if you choose to accept the Oath terms of service, you can do this via your desktop, mobile and/or tablet device; It only needs to be accepted once.

The above section has a list of FAQs but we wanted to touch base on some items we saw.

Why is Yahoo being used to maintain emails?

At this time, AT&T is under contract with Yahoo to provide our email services.

What is the future impact if you do not accept the terms & conditions?

You may not see any issues but continuing not to accept terms & conditions may inject changes that could impact your ability to view email.

What am I being directed to a Yahoo page to log in from att.net?

There was a recent update and our teams are working to resolve it. We will have it fixed as soon as possible. On a side note, I saw similar issue but was able to sign in using my att.net email address and password.

How can I save my emails?

You can use a mail client like Outlook or MacMail to download and have your emails.

I cannot sign in? What is going on?

The change in Terms & Conditions does not affect sign in and in most instances, can be addressed by following troubleshooting steps listed here

I want you to know that you will not have any issues accessing your email and it will work as it did in the past. I know there are other questions that have been asked that we cannot comment on just yet, but, we have read your concerns listed in this thread and working on it.

When I try to access my email a pop up contract appears and prevents me from accessing my email. You told us we could still use our att.net accounts. I don't want to lose access to folders containing important saved emails from my daughter before she died. How can I copy and move those safely so I don' lose access in may?

Your help lines don't know how to tell me how to copy my att.net email folders to a safe place, so I don't lose access due to Yahoo and Verizon merger under the new Oath umbrella company. HELP! I should not have to sign an agreement with them just to access my att.net mail, but I keep getting impeded by oath popup

Yahoo and Verizon merger under the new Oath umbrella company

Just because verizon bought yahoo, yahoo continues to do business under its own name and still is the email service provider for att (Man Frustrated).   Open Authentication (OAuth) is a security protocol and as discussed here only affects email client apps (e.g., Thunderbird, Outlook, mobile email clients, etc.).  And even then the clients don't have to use it but simply change the clients from using the account password to a secure mail key instead.  OAuth is not a company!

So with that cleared up what's your problem?  Are you still a att customer?  What does "email access being impeded" mean?

The inquiry has NOTHING to do with Open Authentication (OAuth).  When logging into ATT email accounts through a browser the access is blocked and instead one gets a banner of the new Verizon Mega Company OATH.  It seems that it has prevented browser access to email!!  This is a big, big problem for me as well.

I stand corrected about OAUTH.  There actually is a company called OAuth, Inc.  But I don't know why you would be seeing that getting into the att/yahoo webmail through start.att.net.

Try relaunching your browser.

Try using another browser for comparison.

I had the exact same problem yesterday.  Although I have already switched to another email provider I still check my ATT/Bellsouth email daily for any emails still using my Bellsouth email address.  I found that no matter what I tried I was still brought back to the OAUTH page where I HAD to accept their rules of NO privacy before I could get to my Bellsouth email page.  I did find that I could go to another page and OPT out supposedly from all their targeted advertising.  But at far as I could tell they still intend to track where I go and what I look at in order to sell that information to someone else.  The fools at ATT/Bellsouth that are responsible for allowing our ATT/Bellsouth accounts to be held hostage this way should be tarred and feathered and put on a raft in the middle of the ocean and left there.  If I could only find another internet provider I would drop ATT like a hot rock.  Unfortunately they are the only provider in this area so I am stuck with them until someone else finally provides service here.

The bizarrely-named Yahoo/Verizon merger, Oath, now throws up a screen requiring you to accept their unpleasant Terms and Conditions the next time you login to webmail. You can postpone accepting but you can't opt-out.

When I tried to postpone accepting it would NOT let me log in.  In the privacy policy section of the agreement there is a link to a page that let's you OPT OUT of some of the foolishness they insist you must have.  You can OPT OUT of their targeted advertising but if I read the rest of it correctly they will still gather whatever information they want from any searches or sites you go to while using Yahoo.  What most people seem to be unaware of is that Facebook also has a very similar policy, which is why I don't belong to Facebook.

I can't log out of the webmail to see if I get this myself (just tried).  I believe I get prompted every two weeks so I will have to wait until it prompts again for the login.  If I do get that dialog and there's no opting out, I'll do my own opting out and simply use another ESP I can live with.
