Wondering why you need to reenter your email password? Have Questions?

What's The Deal?

AT&T and Yahoo are making your email more secure. The new security implementation, also known as Open Authentication(OAuth), works by encrypting your credentials to better protect them from hackers.

A part of this change requires you to reenter your email password. There are a few other things you need to do.

Heads Up: You do not need to make changes if you have a compatible mail client like Apple Mail on Mac running OS 10.11/El Capitan or Windows Mail on PCs running Windows 10, for example.

Have questions about Oauth?

Let us know what they are by posting below. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

I recently received a text advising me to update my email app settings to maintain access to my account.  I attempted to follow the instructions on the linked pages, but the screen shots there did not match reality.  I tried deleting my Email account on my MacBook Pro and reestablish it using Open Authentication as instructed, but the Apple dialogs provide no such option.  Am I about to lose Email access?  There seems to be no tech support number or real person to talk to.  This is highly frustrating and makes me think it's time to switch vendors.  We have been happy AT&T customers for years, but we're not happy now.

Hi @plantguywtr,

Are you using Apple Mail by chance?

Apple Mail on Mac running OS 10.11/El Capitan or above is compatible.

What OS do you have @plantguywtr?

I'm on MacOS Mojave 10.14.6. I think El Capitan was an older version. At any rate, since I'm above 10.11, does this mean Im OK and no further action is required on the Mac?

Have there been any recent changes on the ATT end that would have caused me to be unable to send outgoing mail from my Bellsouth(dot)net account using Gmail client on an LG Stylo 3 phone, which has been working fine up until about Dec. 12, 2019?  I do receive incoming mail to my bellsouth(dot)net account on my phone, but outgoing mail sits in the outbox queu.   I have not made any changes to my account or password.
