Bellsouth.net Email - Sign-in Help, Questions, and Answers

Troubleshooting Bellsouth & SBCGlobal Email Addresses

Announcement

AT&T is making your email experience more secure. A part of this change is a prompt requesting you re-enter your password which may affect your ability to sign-in to your email, especially if you cannot remember your password. You will find steps that will help you address your sign in woes. If you have a mail client, you may need to update your settings with our step-by-step guide. in order to access your email given the change.

Can’t sign in or Forgotten Password:

If you have a current AT&T internet account that is tied to your email, you can change or reset your password by performing the following:

  1. sign in to your AT&T account.
  2. Select Profile > myAT&T sign in Password.
  3. Enter and save your password information.

If you have a free email account, you can reset the password at our email reset page.

  1. Go to Forgot Password page.
  2. Enter your User Name/ email address.
  3. Enter your Last Name.
  4. Follow the prompts.

If you are unable to change your password using the steps above, please chat with us. Please note, if you are unable to verify the account, we will be unable to reset your password. Think about it this way, if someone contacted us pretending to be you and did not know the security questions, would you want them to have access?

Heads Up: If the last name on the record does not match, the password reset option may not work. If you have an old billing statement, please verify what name you used.

I have a bellsouth.net email address that started with BellSouth and went with me to AT&T and then Uverse and now just AT&T giga internet. I can login through AT&T with my original account id or through Yahoo with the alias and receive my email but stopped being able to send email in Jan. After several calls to AT&T for many hours I still can't send email. What do I need to do to send email?

BELLSOUTH.NET  EMAIL PROBLEM - HERE'S THE FIX
March 12, 2018

Anyone with an email address ending in BELLSOUTH.NET is having a problem
connecting to their Pop3 email server. Sometimes it will work but most
times it will not connect and just time out after 60 seconds.

I was told by ATT customer support that the problem is with ATT which controls
all bellsouth.net email addresses. The Pop3 server address is pop.att.yahoo.com
and this will no longer work because Yahoo and ATT have dissolved their
partnership.

THE FIX -
Here is how you can keep and still use your bellsouth.net email address,
but not in the old program you used to access your email, like Outlook Express.

In your web browser just go to www.att.net and then click "SIGN IN" top right of
screen.
Enter your username which is your full bellsouth.net email address, for example,
John123@bellsouth.net and then enter your bellsouth.net password below in
the password box. In case it then says that the username and password don't
match, you then have to click on "forgot password" under the password box.
You need to have the "reset password" sent to another email address you have,
for example, I had mine sent to an AOL address I have.
When you receive that email at your other email address t will contain a "temporary password", which you will need to enter at the att.net website. Then click on "change password" and enter your normal bellsouth.net password.

Once signed in, click on "Email" at the top left of screen. You should then see all
your emails by clicking on the "envelope" icon. You can then send emails by
clicking on the word "compose" icon. You can enter your friends email addresses
into the icon that looks like a persons head. Just click on "new contact" and put in
their name and email address and then hit "save". I have not yet figured out how
to import all your contacts email addresses in bulk.

ATT customer support said they are working on the problem of the old
pop.att.yahoo.com server not connecting in your old email program, like
Outlook Express, but they did not know how long it would take to fix the
problem. They said bellsouth.net users started having "not connecting" problems
last October and they have gotten much worse in the last few weeks.

Good luck. It took me 7 hours of messing with this and calling ATT today
to find this fix. ATT support is 800-288-2020 and ask for "web support",
if you need further help with your bellsouth.net email account.

This solution appears to be out of date. There is now a "secure mail key" (system-generated password) required for email clients that do not support OAuth or OAuth2. The help articles describing how to do this are difficult to find. The server addresses are also different now (imap.mail.att.net and smtp.mail.att.net) and the setup is also different than what is shown here. Can someone from AT&T Cares please update this with accurate information? Thanks!

That was likely a popular phishing e-mail that is making the rounds.
