McAfee Internet Security for macOS 11.0.1 (Big Sur)

The current version available from AT&T is McAfee's version4.9. It does NOT WORK with the lastest versio of macOS, version 11.0.1

Whenand how do I get a current version of McAfee so I will have protection back?

Hi @lokenberg, we are happy to help with your AT&T internet Security suit.

Make sure your Mac meets these minimum operating system requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.8 or higher
  • Computer with Intel processor
  • 1GB RAM or higher
  • 150MB of available free drive space

You can prevent this problem by updating to the latest version of McAfee. You may not have the latest version of McAfee if:

  • You turned your updates off.
  • Recovery mode reverted you back from 14.0 to an earlier version.

If you have any additional concerns, please feel free to reach out to us.

Thank you for contacting us on AT&T Community Forums!

This response does not solve my problem:

My iMac has way more resources than stated as the minimum

As stated, Mac OS is 11.0.1

I did NOT turn off updates and to be sure, I manually forced updates twice

No recovery mode was used

I don’t understand the comment about a version 14.0

The problem appears to be that the AT&T Internet Security Suite does not have the latest version of McAfee.  If you go to mcafee.com you will see that the version being delivered by AT&T is 4.9 and mcafee knows this does not support Mac OS 11.0.1 (Big Sur) and users need to update to the latest version of mcafee.

so the question remains:

When and how do I get a current version of McAfee so I will have protection back?

@lokenberg

Uninstalling and reinstalling the Security Suite should cause it to automatically install the newest version. Give it a try and let us know if it worked or not.

I tried it yesterday and it did not work.

Does AT&T have a Mac to test their offerings?

Clarification:

I successfully uninstalled Security Suite

I reinstalled Security Suite and got version 4.9 again

As of the morning of December 7, 2020, the version of McAfee that is being provided for the AT&T Internet Security Suite is still out of data for use with the newest MacOS 11.0.1 (Big Sur).  When will AT&T provide the required newer McAfee version so that we can protect our new Apple products?

Have had to purchase both the normal McAfee Suite (which has similar issues with Big Sur), and a full Norton Suite. The Norton Suite frequently causes CPUs spike when it cant load their VPN application, making my MacBook fan run hot. When will AT&T get the new version together? If it can work on my wife's Windows Laptop, why not my MacBook!?

I was able to get it to work.  I did a new install from the AT&T dashboard, I did not do the “Reinstall” method.  It works just fine, but the McAfee firewall doesn’t work yet so just enable the Mac firewall in the system settings.  Once the update is available it will update.

Thank you! :) I tried that too but it didn't work for me. I keep getting the error message that I'm attempting to download to an unsupported operating system and that I need Mac OSX 10.12 and above :(

I was on a call with AT&T and McAfee support at the same time today.  According to McAfee the problem is that AT&T is NOT sending across some kind of flag or data info that says "This user should be allowed to download a client for Mac".

There is a ticket open with AT&T to look into this, which includes this new data.
According to McAfee they get thousands of calls from AT&T Mac users complaining that they are not able to download the software.....

I was actually able to get this resolved just a few weeks. I contacted AT&T who attempted to troubleshooting were super helpful but couldn’t figure it out so recommended I reach out to McAfee. McAfee support was also super helpful and fixed 90% of the issue for me. It still wasn’t working but after their instructions, I also used the “new device” option (since AT&T allows up to 4, I think) to install McAfee and it worked!

So if anyone is having trouble with this still, contact McAfee support, they’ll have you find and delete any old files pertaining to McAfee that’s left on your hard drive (coz that’s what’s preventing the software to work) and then just install the software as a new device and hopefully it’ll work! Good luck!
