IP Address Outside the US

I understand that my IP Address can change and/or not necessarily be in the same location that I reside. However, lately I've been getting emails and messages saying that I am outside of the US when I am not. Can my location change that far out? will this impact my browsing content? How can I make it so that my IP address location at least stays within the country that I am currently in?

We're here to help, @aariola79!

Have you done any checks to confirm what your IP address is, and whether it matches the information you've been receiving in e-mails and messages?

Often times there are devices with security measures that change where your IP address is, to better protect you while you are online. Depending on what your security is, it may show you at out of country. However, in most cases you would be routed to somewhere within the country of your location.

You may also be routed to other servers depending on service outages.

Whether it will impact your browsing content is based on your settings for other websites. To keep your IP address at one location or near your country, the main step we suggest is confirming that your IP address matches across your devices connected to the same internet, and referencing that with the messages you have been receiving. With that, you can help determine what is changing your IP address.

Thanks, Donovan, for the response. It appears my IP address is only different with my work machine. My home computer and mobile phones (on wifi) all have the same IP address. I am using the wifi at my home while on my work machine, however. Shouldn't that have used the same IP address? Also my web content is a little different. Example, when I go to disney.com on my work machine it immediately switches me to disneylatino.com. I don't have that issues with my home devices.

Hi, @aarriola79.

What type of device are you using for your work machine?

Are you using a VPN for your work machine?

Let us know more, so we can help.

Hi Marc. I'm using a ThinkPad T470. I do have access to a VPN but only use when I need to get files from the network. Otherwise I am not using it (most of the time). Thanks,

Hey @aarriola79,

We accessing your work machine what are you connecting to to establish connection?

Sounds like the device could be registered to that IP address or server your using when accessing your work.

Are you using some type of connection portal?

Hi Charles. Currently, when I connect for work I use the WiFi connection at home. I only log in through the VPN if I need to retrieve some files on the work network and then I log off the VPN so I'm not on it long. However, before the quarantine, when I would work from home (at least once a week if not more) I always logged on through the VPN and stayed logged on. But, I was and am always connected to my home WiFi.

I've only noticed more recently the out of country IP address.
