If I cancel my AT&T account will I lose my email address?

A common question we are asked is, "Can I keep my email if I cancel my service." The Answer: Yes you can!

What To Know

If you cancel your AT&T Internet account, you will still have access to your account as long as your account is in good standing. If there is a balance owed on the AT&T internet account, you will lose access to the email until it is resolved. To verify your canceled AT&T Internet account is in good standing, chat with us. If you break terms and conditions, the email will be deactivated.

Helpful Tips!

  • Security Questions - when you cancel your services, you no longer have the ability to reset your email at att.com. It is highly recommended you set up security questions before you cancel - it makes it easier to reset passwords if you forget it!
  • Merged Email Addresses - If your Yahoo email is tied to your att.net email, you do have the option to unmerge it. The att.net email is deleted when you unmerge the account. You must process the request within 30 days of cancellation.
  • Tie your email to your mobile account - this will help with password resets in the future

To Unmerge the account, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to myAT&T, and log in with your AT&T Member ID and password.
  2. Select Profile > Update My Profile.
  3. Under AT&T Email Accounts, select Account Profile.
  4. Next to Member ID, select Delete Account.
  5. Select OK to confirm.
  6. Confirm that the Status at the bottom of the User Information section now reads Disabled. Your email account has been deleted.
  7. To continue using your Yahoo email, sign in to Yahoo mail. Select the Unmerge button in the bottom right corner of the page.

Thanks

I have a sbcglobal.net email, if I switch internet service from att will I get to keep the email address?  If yes, how long will I have access?

I have an SBCGLOBAL.NET account and at sometime AT&T managed it.  I never was an AT&T customer.  Now they have taken away my access to my emails. I've had this email for years.  How do I get access to this email again?  Thanks for any help.

I tried following the steps above and was unsuccessful; I have an Ameritech.net (yeah, I'm that old).  Unfortunately, it all goes off the rails at the second step - there is no "Update Profile" option.  Clicking around on my profile, I cannot find a Member ID nor anyway to delete the account.  Also, do not see an "Unmerge" option on Yahoo Email and a search in Yahoo Email Help for unmerge does not return any results.

can I still access my email account after I switch internet services ?

I have to switch services because where I am moving to won't have uverse.

Would my screen name change to @yahoo.com

or would it still say @global.net.

I don't want to lose access to my nintendo account or any of the other websites I lose.  I need answers. I have so many concerns about this.

I don't want to lose access to my nintendo account or deviant art or any other site that I use.  Please I need more info.   or will I have to make a new screen name ?  Please I am worried about this. I need to know that this will work fine.

@RachelF5

Terms of service say you get to keep your current att email addresses. I recommend you make sure you keep a record of your 4-digit account pin, account number, your security questions, and make sure the recovery email address is pointing at a valid email address (preferably not an att address). These things make it less of a hassle in the future if you have to contact att support if there are email problems, for example if problems arise like having trouble changing your password.

The unmerge does not change your email address.

Since this thread started and since I posted last on this topic I had a chance to re-verify whether the Terms of Service still say you get to keep your att email accounts.  The TOS were updated Jan 14, 2019 and there is no longer any mention on whether you keep your email accounts when you terminate service!  At least I can find it.  So this may no longer be true.

does this apply to sbcglobal accounts?  I also have to switch providers but I've had that email for YEARS and can't afford to change.

I no longer have ATT service but still use my sbcglobal.net e-mail address.  I have gotten locked out of my e-mail account and don't know how to get back in.  please help.

What happens to subaccount emails?

(I see one post above, but it's 3 years old, so I'm re-confirming what happens to sub-accounts and in more detail.  (have dial up that is being discontinued).

  • Are they still available?

If Yes,

  • Via Currently.com?
  • Is there any primary / sub structure or they just become a collection of accounts?

Thanks!
