How do I unmerge AT&T and Yahoo email accounts?

Split.png

You may have been notified that your E-mail account is about to get unmerged. You may have had a merged account where your AT&T E-mail and Yahoo E-mail were merged into a single account, which allowed the password and inboxes to be shared.

If you are not sure if you have a merged account, it is likely you have one if:

  • You can sign in to your merged E-mail account using either you AT&T or your Yahoo E-mail address.
  • You can sign in to myA&T with either your AT&T or Yahoo E-mail addresses.
  • You use the same password for both AT&T and Yahoo E-mail accounts.
  • Your mailbox receives messages from both your AT&T and Yahoo E-mail address.
  • When you reset the password, it changes the password on both Yahoo and AT&T accounts.
  • When trying to reset your Yahoo password, it redirects you to myAT&T.

What is Happening?
Beginning mid-November 2017, you will no longer be able to sign in to myAT&T or att.net with your Yahoo ID.
Beginning early December 2017, all merged email accounts will be separated into two separate email accounts.

What does this mean to you?

Beginning in mid-November 2017, you will need to start using your AT&T email address to sign in to myAT&T instead of your Yahoo email address.

  • To access your AT&T account in myAT&T, you’ll need to sign in using your AT&T email address. (Don’t worry, we’ll tell you what it is if you try to sign in with your Yahoo email address.)
  • To access your AT&T email account through att.net, you’ll need to use your AT&T email address through currently.att.yahoo.com and clicking on the mail icon at the top. (Again, we’ll tell you what it is if you try to sign in with your Yahoo email address.)

You’ll need to start signing in to your AT&T and Yahoo email accounts separately since you will now have two unique accounts.

  • The passwords will not change until you decide to change them.
  • Your AT&T E-mail account will be empty. This includes E-mails, contacts, calendar, information associated with Yahoo sites (Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Groups, Tumblr, finance portfolios). All of this information will be on your Yahoo E-mail account.
  • Your Yahoo E-mail password can be managed through the Yahoo Member Center.

What about my Sub-accounts?

  • All Yahoo accounts will become stand alone accounts.
  • Just like the parent accounts, any subaccounts that were linked to a yahoo account, the AT&T E-mail account will be empty and all the E-mails, contacts, and other things will be stay with the Yahoo account.
  • The AT&T subaccounts will still be subaccounts under the primary AT&T E-mail account.

What about my E-mails, Contacts, and Folders

  • Your E-mails, Contacts, and Folders for your merged accounts will be available when you login with your YahooID.
  • For your Yahoo E-mail, Contacts, and Folder issues, please reach out to Yahoo.
    • If you are getting an AT&T error message or not seeing your E-mails, Contacts, or Folders, such as a terminated account, try clearing your cache and cookies or using a different browser. Make sure you are logging in with your @yahoo.com account at mail.yahoo.com.
    • You can reset your password by selecting forgot password.
    • If you are missing E-mails, you can recover your E-mail at this site.

Not able to Sign In

  • Yahoo E-mail - Please contact Yahoo, as we no longer have access to Yahoo accounts.
  • AT&T - Getting incorrect password? Go to our help article to get back into your account.
    • Suspended / Inactive / Error 550.5.2.1 - Accounts were disabled from inactivity during the unmerge. To fix this, try to sign in and after 48 hours, your E-mail account will become active again.
    • Getting redirected to Yahoo site - Clear your cache and cookies or try using a different browser. Make sure you are logging into the right site. Go to currently.com and click on the mail icon at the top-right.

Apparently I had merged accounts with yahoo and att. As of yesterday all my folders in my email are gone. If I try to sign into yahoo (which is an a email address that I do not use), I'm required to change my password which I don't care to do. I prefer my sbcglobal (att) address that I have had for years. Where are my folders and how do I retrieve them?

Logging into two email accounts to get what used to be in one account is very understandable, just ridiculously awkward and poorly planned. I will have to set up the same folders in AT&T email and keep all future emails in those as I plan to use my AT&T email exclusive of my Yahoo email.  So, as I reference my folders in the future I will have to search through two sets of folders for email references to find the things I need. Or ..... I log into my Yahoo account and email forward, one-by-one, each email in my current folders. Certainly, this was not planed in the least for customer satisfaction, was it?

What would have been realllllllly helpful is if you would have posted the info on how to contact someone (anyone) at at&t that knows their a** from a hole in the ground.

Today when I logged into my @sbcglobal.net email account everything is gone.  Is there a way to recover 15+ years of emails!  I am panicking.  I see this is happening to a lot of people but haven't seen a  solution.  Thanks

I opened my e-mail account and all but 40 of my e-mail messages and all my folders were gone. Followed instructions sent by AT&T with no success. Roadblock was attempting to log in with my yahoo account. Turns out it wanted to confirm my “authenticity” by sending a code to an old army e-mail account in the system. So now there is no way to verify my account and nowhere to turn since I no longer have any dealings with AT&T other than a merged yahoo account. Any ideas on where to turn????

Since an obvious Yahoo update in the last 24 hours, I am missing ALL folders, contacts and emails.

Same here. I can get either current emails or a site with all the folders. I can't save any of the current emails to a folder because they're not in the same site.

That's what I was afraid I'd have to do. Not looking forward to that.

I have recreated my folders and put in another email account.  This is the problem though.  I cannot forward items that were in my folders on my original account which makes it frustrating as I had important data in those folders.

Please help.

On 12/28/2017 I had all my emails from yahoo.com and att.net but on 12/29/2017 I lost all my old emails and can only see new emails in both browser.  I called the att helpline and they said there as an outage.  Today I logged back in and I am still missing my old folders and emails.  How can I get them back.  Both my IE and Edge browsers show the same information only new emails.  My old domain was @sbcglobal.net which I understand should not have been touched because it is owned by att.  Help.....

I wrote a new reply but I feel I need to do a reply on the solution.  The problem now is when I try to transfer items in my folders in my old account; there is no way to forward those items in the folder to my new account.  (Hope my question makes sense)  Very very frustrating for myself and others as you can see by the problems.

I was able to go into my folders in my yahoo account and forward the emails in them that I wanted to keep to my att account, then create new folders and put the emails in them. Took a while but it worked. I had been thinking about cleaning up those old folders anyway.

This seems to be the only way to do it. Two separate browsers, recreate folders in one, and one-by-one, forward all the email in the folders to the new folders.

And, that's right, in the middle of the holidays when we're busiest.
