How do I unmerge AT&T and Yahoo email accounts?
You may have been notified that your E-mail account is about to get unmerged. You may have had a merged account where your AT&T E-mail and Yahoo E-mail were merged into a single account, which allowed the password and inboxes to be shared.
If you are not sure if you have a merged account, it is likely you have one if:
- You can sign in to your merged E-mail account using either you AT&T or your Yahoo E-mail address.
- You can sign in to myA&T with either your AT&T or Yahoo E-mail addresses.
- You use the same password for both AT&T and Yahoo E-mail accounts.
- Your mailbox receives messages from both your AT&T and Yahoo E-mail address.
- When you reset the password, it changes the password on both Yahoo and AT&T accounts.
- When trying to reset your Yahoo password, it redirects you to myAT&T.
What is Happening?
Beginning mid-November 2017, you will no longer be able to sign in to myAT&T or att.net with your Yahoo ID.
Beginning early December 2017, all merged email accounts will be separated into two separate email accounts.
What does this mean to you?
Beginning in mid-November 2017, you will need to start using your AT&T email address to sign in to myAT&T instead of your Yahoo email address.
- To access your AT&T account in myAT&T, you’ll need to sign in using your AT&T email address. (Don’t worry, we’ll tell you what it is if you try to sign in with your Yahoo email address.)
- To access your AT&T email account through att.net, you’ll need to use your AT&T email address. (Again, we’ll tell you what it is if you try to sign in with your Yahoo email address.)
For a short time, you’ll still be able to sign in to your combined email account with your Yahoo email address on yahoo.com.
In early December 2017, you’ll need to start signing in to your AT&T and Yahoo email accounts separately since you will now have two unique accounts.
- The passwords will not change until you decide to change them.
- Your AT&T E-mail account will be empty. This includes E-mails, contacts, calendar, information associated with Yahoo sites (Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Groups, Tumblr, finance portfolios). All of this information will be on your Yahoo E-mail account.
- Your Yahoo E-mail password can be managed through the Yahoo Member Center.
What about my Sub-accounts?
- All Yahoo accounts will become stand alone accounts.
- Just like the parent accounts, any subaccounts that were linked to a yahoo account, the AT&T E-mail account will be empty and all the E-mails, contacts, and other things will be stay with the Yahoo account.
- The AT&T subaccounts will still be subaccounts under the primary AT&T E-mail account.
What about my E-mails, Contacts, and Folders
- Your E-mails, Contacts, and Folders for your merged accounts will be available when you login with your YahooID.
- For your Yahoo E-mail, Contacts, and Folder issues, please reach out to Yahoo.
- If you are getting an AT&T error message or not seeing your E-mails, Contacts, or Folders, such as a terminated account, try clearing your cache and cookies or using a different browser. Make sure you are logging in with your @yahoo.com account at mail.yahoo.com.
- You can reset your password at this site.
- If you are missing E-mails, you can recover your E-mail at this site.
Not able to Sign In
- Yahoo E-mail - Please contact Yahoo, as we no longer have access to Yahoo accounts.
- AT&T - Getting incorrect password? Go to our help article to get back into your account.
- Suspended / Inactive / Error 550.5.2.1 - Accounts were disabled from inactivity during the unmerge. To fix this, try to sign in and after 48 hours, your E-mail account will become active again.
- Getting redirected to Yahoo site - Clear your cache and cookies or try using a different browser. Make sure you are logging into the right site. Go to att.net and click on the mail icon at the top-right.

I was answering post 3 from you above ("I just want to transfer them.").
As implied in post 2, if they aren't in your att/yahoo account when you log in through start.att.net then you should log into the yahoo account (presumably through www.yahoo.com) to see if all your stuff is there. If it is, aside from the contacts list, you won't be able to move the mailboxes back to the att account.
I don't know what account you log into on yahoo to get into their email. I'm guessing that if you had a merged account like foo@sbcglobal.net then maybe it's foo@yahoo.net (.com?) over there. I don't have one of these kind of accounts so all that is just a guess.
You might also send a private message to @ATTU-verseCare and call the Digital Assistance Center (877-267-2988). By now I assume they have gotten tons of complaints on this same problem so maybe adding yet one more will get them off their butts to fix all this crap since att and yahoo were the ones that screwed all this up in the first place!

1) In the upper corner of your mail window, place your cursor on your name until the box drops down with additional email addresses assigned to you.
2) At the bottom of this box you will see "Add or Manage Accounts." Click on that.
3) You will be asked to type the email address you wish to add. In my case it was my account at yahoo.com
4) Okay this entry then you will be asked to input your password. Do not click on "can't remember." Type in a password or just type in any random text then okay it. It won't be accepted and you may then re-enter a random text or password again. Keep doing this until the box changes to allow you to reset your password.
5) Type a new password and confirm as requested. VIOLA!!!! Your Yahoo mail page appears with all of your contacts and email folders!!!
6) Now when you place your cursor over your name on the email page you will see the drop down box listing all of your email accounts and you then may choose each one individually, hence no more merged email accounts.
7) Problem solved!!

I tried to get into my email per your directions to update/change password. I never got the page to change my password. I tried getting my password sent over via key, and it still kept giving me the same error I have been receiving for the past month. I still received the stupid error saying
"AT&T and Yahoo has been cancelled." Seriously when is this error message going to let me back into my email. AT&T said the email accounts had been unmerged....well why is AT&T still indicated in the error message? Anyone anyone have a solution???
You no longer have access to your AT&T Yahoo! account because your AT&T Yahoo! Internet services have been canceled.
Choose Transfer information to create a new free Yahoo! account so we can transfer your existing settings and personal information such as your email messages, address book entries, and photos.

This does not appear to work for me either. It just keeps going to the I am not a robot screen - and wrong password... back and forth - no way to reset the password.

When my laptop crashed in Nov 16, I bought a new PC and installed Outlook 16. I added my email account. It duplicated the account but the duplicated acct ended with (1). My folders were all there. My other laptop crashed last month so I bought a PC and installed Outlook. It removed the acct ending (1) and just shows the same att.net email account twice. One goes from Oct 2016 to Nov 2016 and the other shows Feb 2016 to now. The problem is that when I bought the computer in December 2017 the att.net(1) went away, several of my folders went with it. My phone shows to identical ATT accounts but most of the original folders are missing. I never deleted any of these folders so I think they are still out there but I don't know how to get to them. I also have 60 sync issues showing on one PC and 600+ sync issues on the new computer. Any ideas on how to recover the deleted folders and fix my sync issues?

You are probably affected by the un-merging of AT&T (SBCglobal.net) and Yahoo.com email accounts.
All your old emails, folders, contacts, and calendars should be stored and still accessible in your primary Yahoo.com account.

My email(s) end in att.net. I was recently( 2/5/18) made aware of this split. I go to att. Net and sign in only to be told my password doesn’t work or that My att. Net email ( had for 5+yrs) is not recognized by att.net.
Even ATT IT couldn’t get it worked out for nearly 2 hours.
Finally got acess to 1 of them, but other att.net email is still not recognized, won’t let me reset a password.
what was the point of this other than to make your customers crazy and have them contemplate other providers?

I feel your pain. Spent 2 hours on phone w ATT IT trying to figure this out. My email address ends in att.net but had been logging in on yahoo using att.net. Can’t do it now.
Eventually was told to use att.net to logg in for email. Still had to go to att.com ( yep not at all confusing ATT🙄) had to add me email to the person whose name is on the accounts page.
Yada yada yada. Still can’t get into my 2nd att.net email even though it’s listed.
I’m switching my email to g.mail. Pain in the butt but at least I can get to it.
Not sure this helps- but wanted you to know you’re not alone. NOT IMPRESSED ATT, not impressed.

I recently had several issues using att.net but nothing was lost except my drafts. The folder is empty but if I go to webmail, they are still there. Do drafts get archived?
