Hacked Email - Spam Subscription Emails

All of the sudden on Monday I started getting tons of spam related emails in my inbox saying that my subscription is confirmed, my purchase or delivery is confirmed, and I haven't signed up for anything.  The messages are in every language from English, to Arabic, to European, and ranges from subscription confirmations to magazines, blogs, purchase sites, and everything under the sun.  I haven't been to any random sites, and I have no idea how to stop getting all of these random spam-like emails constantly.  It's hundreds daily.

 

I continue to send them all to spam, but they continue to come in constantly even after I've sent specific emails to spam.  Does anyone know how to make this stop??

Looks like your email addresses got on to a bunch of spam email lists somewhere/somehow.  If continued training of the spam filters (by repeatedly flagging them as spam) doesn't work look at some of them to see if there some common character strings like the titles (or portions of the titles) or the From (senders) email address (address name and/or domain) that you can group the spam into.  Then define filters and/or email blocks to handle the matching stuff.  Use the gear->settings filters and gear->settings blocked addresses to try to handle that stuff.

 

Of course never answer any of those spams like "remove me from further emails" because that will just confirm they got a working email address.  And never click any links, email address, or open enclosures in those spams either.  That potentially can only lead to problems.

I don't, but the exact same thing happened to me to my at&t (prodigy) address this past weekend. Like you, I've just been sending them to spam.

Here's the interesting thing - while many of the emails were clearly spam, a lot were not. I was signed up for a lot of innocuous mailing lists like university alumni associations; major store (like macys, bass pro shops) shopping/catalog emails...etc. These were legit emails with legit/valid links; it's just that I never signed up for any of them. Someone must be making money by inflating those subscription numbers.....

I'm getting hundreds of emails from Arabic and UK dating sites, etc...all are going to my email and now hundreds are going to my draft section and sending out emails from me for these crazy sites?...to all my contact list

I've tried to spam them but now they are coming to me and then from me to all my contacts???

email says I cannot spam myself....I delete but????

One side note, I had this happen to me this weekend - in my case it was an email subscription to every US Government branch/division/office, and boy are there a bunch of them. HOWEVER, and this is the important thing, there was one email, buried right in the middle of all of the nuisance emails, from Kohl's Dept Store: telling me that someone had just changed my mailing address. In other words, all of the subscription emails were meant to hide or disguise the fact that someone had gotten into my online account and was preparing to use my credit card to buy something. Very creepy. So watch those emails closely!

I seem to be in the same boat, many "legit" sites with "safe unsubscribe" links at the bottom that I've been using to unsubscribe, guess I should stop and simply send them to spam. In response to Elisa633's comment, I've received two "order confirmation" emails from Williams-Sonoma, about 2-3 weeks apart. I logged into my Williams-Sonoma account (NOT by clicking on an email link, but directly from the website) and found legit orders that appeared to be made by me, with the item to be sent to my home address. I quickly called customer service and cancelled each order as they came in since I placed no orders, but I'm dumbfounded as to what anyone has to gain by placing an order on my behalf, unless they intended to try and have the package re-routed after shipment was sent. I changed my PW on the site and removed my saved credit card info, hopefully this will fix that issue, but wonder if the hundreds of newsletter and website signups from sites all over the world were meant to disguise that order. I also logged into my credit card and saw no evidence of any other fraud. Williams-Sonoma was great at helping me over the phone and logged both orders as potential fraud. 

 

Another thing, I noticed that the subscription signup confirmation emails addressed by several different names, for example, "David, please confirm your subscription", or "Amber, thank you for joining our newsletter". Don't know if that means anything. I just can't wrap my head around what anyone would have to gain by doing this.

Same issue here today. Two $600 a piece Sams club orders embedded in the nearly 1000 emails. Anyone know how they’re getting the information? Is there a common thread company or recent hack?

Wow! I had someone charge a $500 Disney giftcard from Samsclub on my credit card and within 5 minutes I started getting the spam emails.

I’ve received tons of them too, (not to mention texts) and after reporting them to to the company involved, and the reportphising.apwg.org site, i delete them, after I make a copy. Ive tried to report them to AT@T, but they won’t do anything.

In looking over these multiple emails, involving multiple companies, i have determined the common denominator is AT&T!

I do not get these on my gmail accounts. I’ve changed my passwords on those accounts multiple times, and have now changed my logins to a gmail account, as much as i can. It’s a tedious process. Changing passwords does not stop the emails.

When I contacted AT@t several times about these and also the text spams, their response was that they would only look into it if the email or text came frome an att address. Yeah, that’s helpful. These came from other countries, but I am a AT&T customer, and pay lots of money for them to protect my identity, and look into these issues and come up with ways to stop them. I guess the answer is going to gmail. AT@T fraud services are a joke.
