Announcement
AT&T is making your email experience more secure. A part of this change is prompt requesting you reenter your password which may affect your ability to sign-in to your email, especially if you cannot remember your password. You will find steps that will help you address your sign in woes. If you have a mail client, you may need to update your settings with our step-by-step guide. in order to access your email given the change.
Note: Make sure you are using the right ID. Find it now.
Password Issues
Resetting your password is one of the fastest ways to get back into your account.
Sign-In Update/ Change
If you attempted to sign into your account via Yahoo and you were redirected to AT&T E-mail login page, this is normal. If you are having trouble signing in, try:
-
Clearing the cache and cookies on your browser.
-
Testing with a different browser.
If you are still having issues with loading the login page, go to att.net and click on the mail icon at the top right.
WebMail and Features Troubleshooting
-
Clear Cache and Cookies - The most common fix
-
Update Your Browser - many features are only compatible with the latest browser and we recommend updating it
-
Test signing in to your webmail using another browser
-
Disable browser tools or add-ons - varies by device and browser
-
Disable your firewall - varies by device and browser
-
Enable Adobe Flash Player - install flash player now
-
Make sure Java is up-to-date - https://www.java.com/en/download/
Have the right browser
Internet Explorer and/ or a Microsoft Edge browser older than 15.x, you will need to upgrade your browser to a supported browser. If you’re using FireFox, Chrome, and/or a Mac-based browser, just sit back, and relax.
Can you keep your email?
In short, yes you can! Our Free Email FAQs page has more information and things you need to know. Please check out the terms and conditions page for more information.
Email Not Going Where It Is Supposed To?
-
Is Your Email Going Into Spam? Trash? Another Folder? - check the rules in webmail to make sure nothing is set up to forward
-
Hacked Email - If your email account was compromised, rules may have been set up without your knowledge
-
3rd Party Browsers - If you are using a 3rd party mailbox like Outlook, disable it to make sure that mail box is not causing the issues
Note: Some 3rd party mail apps have been known to cause issues and send mail into trash. We highly recommend discontinuing the use of the app and using the Yahoo Mail App.
3rd Party Mailbox - (Outlook, Apple Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird)
You may need to update your client to work with Oauth. You will find step-by-step solutions in our Client Setup Page. You'll find solutions below for generic client issues:
-
Test using webmail - If you are able to sign in to your email via the web, the issue points to the app or mailbox you are using.
-
Mailboxes - we recommend using the latest version. Updates and changes may prevent it from working properly.
-
Rebuild Mailbox profile - In some instances, rebuilding the profile fixes some issues. You may lose email doing this
-
Change your settings from POP to IMAP
-
Test using webmail. If do not experience issues, it could be related to the 3rd party app
-
Client issues - If you are using POP, you must now use IMAP. There was a recent change, this article will explain further
-
AT&T does not officially support or troubleshoot mailboxes/ clients like Outlook
Note: For those of you using Evolution and having issues sending email, go into setting and find Disable Settings For All POP3 Extensions and select it.
Having trouble with Outlook, check out this thread from one of our community members.
POP Vs IMAP Settings
Due to maintenance to upgrade the legacy IMAP host to a modernized IMAP infrastructure, some customers may get an SSL Certificate mismatch error within their e-mail client or mobile device
-
Accept the mismatch to update the SSL certificate for the e-mail to work as normal.
-
If there is no option to accept the certificate, remove the e-mail account and set it up again.
-
For older Android devices without auto-setup change the following settings.
Incoming Mail Server (IMAP)
-
Server - imap.mail.att.net
-
Port - 993
-
Requires SSL – Yes
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
-
Server - smtp.mail.att.net
-
Port - 465 or 587
-
Requires SSL - Yes
-
Requires authentication - Yes
-
Your sign in info:
E-mail address - Your full e-mail address (name@domain.com)
Password - Your account's password
Requires authentication - Yes
Spellcheck
The spellcheck feature is no longer supported via webmail and now defaults to the browser spell check option.

When I input an address and I know the address is the Contacts, it no longer auto fills. I also can no longer search...it just keeps searching with no result. ATT online support is extremely unhelpful as it says there is no supported email account.

Yesterday afternoon, when my Outlook 2007 did a send/receive there were suddenly over two thousand emails downloading into Outlook!! I have not changed any settings on my computer lately. When I logged into my email online there were thousands of old emails in my Inbox! Where did they come from and why won't they let me delete them more than 50 at a time? I thought they were being deleted after they downloaded to my Outlook on my computer? What a pain in the butt and so time consuming to clean up this mess!
There was nothing in the troubleshoot topics about this situation (and no chat available for email) so this forum was my only outlet for my frustrations.

Since att email departed from Yahoo in the past couple of weeks, whenever I sign into email a new window opens. There are now 2 windows for att.net I do not want this to happen. How do I fix this so that when I sign into email, the email open in the same window?

I was able to solve Thunderbird, however for AquaMail all I get is 'Network error' I cannot set up email for AquaMail (Android app). I used the following:
For POP3 I entered inbound.att.net for Incoming and entered port 993. I entered outbound.att.net for the Outgoing and entered port 465 and retried with 587.
For IMAP I entered imap.mail.att.net for Incoming and entered port 995, and smtp.mail.att.net for Outgoing and entered port 465 and retried with 587.
I checked: This server requires a secure connection (SSL) for every entry.

I changed my ATT.net password because someone hacked into my email and now my Windows Live Mail will not send or receive. I called ATT and they checked all the settings with me and everything is correct, including the new password, however, every time I open Windows Live Mail I get an error message and the password box comes up to enter the new password. I have done this ten times now and it seems Windows Live Mail will not accept it. Any suggestions?

I have had my sbcglobal email account for about 15 years. I have never had a problem with it. Well the other day I went to sign in and it said my session expired and it keeps telling me my password is incorrect. Everything is connected to that account!! I'm lost without it. Has anyone dealt with this?? Can anyone please help? Thanks

Thunderbird warns that smtp.mail.att.net port 465 attempts to use a certificate with SHA-256 fingerprint 1C:C0:FE:10:29:81:1E:21:26:87:B7:B2:31:7D:86:73:B4:61:EB:4E:57:A2:6E:47:33:0D:21:5F:23:7D:48:24 that expired November 10, 2011.
Thunderbird v45.8 has a setting to ignore the expired certificate so that I can send mail anyway. AFAIK, this exposes sending mail to MITM attacks.

When I check my email, some are in the inbox and some randomly are in the trash folder. It makes no sense.
I have to check both places to make sure I do not miss anything. How can I fix this? They all should be going to the inbox only.

Do you have any filters defined in the webmail that might cause this?
If you are using a email client app (e.g., Thunderbird, Outlook, etc.) does it delete mail after reading or use any filters that might cause it to trash mail items?
IMAP or POP?
Can I assume IMAP if you read mail through multiple devices?

My email works on my phone and on the web site.
The applications that use IMAP quit working. They are Thunderbird and the Windows 10 Mail application. Both are asking for passwords but when entering in the correct password the email still won't connect. It just happened this morning. The settings appear correct.
My email ends in @sbcglobal.net
Have the IMAP settings changed?
Is IMAP down at the host?
Thanks,
Chris

My email puts the majority of my new emails in "Trash" and NOT "Inbox".
