WebMail and Features Troubleshooting
-
Clear Cache and Cookies - The most common fix
-
Update Your Browser - many features are only compatible with the latest browser and we recommend updating it
-
Test signing in to your webmail using another browser
-
Disable browser tools or add-ons - varies by device and browser
-
Disable your firewall - varies by device and browser
-
Enable Adobe Flash Player - install flash player now
-
Make sure Java is up-to-date - https://www.java.com/en/download/
Have the right browser
Internet Explorer and/ or a Microsoft Edge browser older than 15.x, you will need to upgrade your browser to a supported browser. If you’re using FireFox, Chrome, and/or a Mac-based browser, just sit back, and relax.
Can you keep your email?
In short, yes you can! Our Free Email FAQs page has more information and things you need to know. Please check out the terms and conditions page for more information.
Email Not Going Where It Is Supposed To?
-
Is Your Email Going Into Spam? Trash? Another Folder? - check the rules in webmail to make sure nothing is set up to forward
-
Hacked Email - If your email account was compromised, rules may have been set up without your knowledge
-
3rd Party Browsers - If you are using a 3rd party mailbox like Outlook, disable it to make sure that mail box is not causing the issues
Note: Some 3rd party mail apps have been known to cause issues and send mail into trash. We highly recommend discontinuing the use of the app and using the Yahoo Mail App.
3rd Party Mailbox - (Outlook, Apple Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird)
You may need to update your client to work with Oauth. You will find step-by-step solutions in our Client Setup Page. You'll find solutions below for generic client issues:
-
Test using webmail - If you are able to sign in to your email via the web, the issue points to the app or mailbox you are using.
-
Mailboxes - we recommend using the latest version. Updates and changes may prevent it from working properly.
-
Rebuild Mailbox profile - In some instances, rebuilding the profile fixes some issues. You may lose email doing this
-
Change your settings from POP to IMAP
-
Test using webmail. If do not experience issues, it could be related to the 3rd party app
-
Client issues - If you are using POP, you must now use IMAP. There was a recent change, this article will explain further
-
AT&T does not officially support or troubleshoot mailboxes/ clients like Outlook
Note: For those of you using Evolution and having issues sending email, go into setting and find Disable Settings For All POP3 Extensions and select it.
Having trouble with Outlook, check out this thread from one of our community members.
POP Vs IMAP Settings
Due to maintenance to upgrade the legacy IMAP host to a modernized IMAP infrastructure, some customers may get an SSL Certificate mismatch error within their e-mail client or mobile device
-
Accept the mismatch to update the SSL certificate for the e-mail to work as normal.
-
If there is no option to accept the certificate, remove the e-mail account and set it up again.
-
For older Android devices without auto-setup change the following settings.
Incoming Mail Server (IMAP) | Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) |
|
|
Spellcheck
The spellcheck feature is no longer supported via webmail and now defaults to the browser spell check option.

The "majority", not all if it? Are you using a email client app (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) that set its preference to delete new email from the server? Do any or all of them use IMAP and delete new mail? And if you are not using a client app but just the webmail do you have a filter set up incorrectly?

We have had bellsouth.net for years. If I change internet providers can I still keep my 3 bellsouth.net emails? If so, how?
Thank you! 🙂

Hi @angryest,
I moved your threads to our email troubleshooting article. Scroll up and check out the WebMail and Features Troubleshooting section. Deleting cache and cookies will resolve this. Also, to make things easier, using 2 separate browsers is recommended. For example, you could use FireFox or Google Chrome for one box and Internet Explorer for another.

iPad mail client set up hint:
If your mail client suddenly stops working (can't get mail from server), your best option might be deleting the existing account and setting it up fresh on the iPad (not on the ATT server!). I found today (10/13/2017) that I could not change a number of settings to correct server settings in the iPad client. The solution was to delete the existing account on the iPad (I was working on an old one, Version 2) and then set up the iPad mail client fresh.
This is the critical part of the process: The very first option that pops up when you start to create a new account is a number of major mail provider pre-sets. These include MS Outlook, Yahoo! and others. For AT&T mail you want to select "Other" and not Yahoo!'. If you select "Yahoo!" the server settings get loaded with incorrect addresses. The next dialog asks you to enter your email address. For me, this was userid@sbcglobal.net. When I entered the sbcglobal.net domain, the client went out and got the right (dead perfect, per the server settings you see at the top of this thread) server addresses, port settings, etc. After that I entered the password and bingo. Done. Worked. Note that I tried this several times before I discovered that the key was to use the "Other" preset and not the "Yahoo!" preset. If you run into a problem with your iPad not accessing mail from the server, you might just come down this same road. Save yourself some time and do as I did.

My email is dumping new emails into the trash. I have checked to see that they are on my email list. Yes. Now I have to check my inbox and my trash. Does anyone know how to fix this? It has been happening for over a month.

Hello alostsoul,
Thank you for reaching out to us on AT&T’s Community and Forums. Being able to access your email is vital and not being able to access it can be quite stressful. I can help you with this.
For further clarification, can you send the type of email account you are having trouble with, ie ATT.NET, Yahoo, etc in a private DM to us at @ATTCares? In the meantime, here is a link with trouble shooting tips to help you with resetting your password, https://forums.att.com/t5/AT-T-Internet-Email-Security/Yahoo-Merged-E-mail-Accounts-Getting-Unmerged/td-p/5336865.
If we can be of any further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you and I hope you have an amazing week!
