Announcement: If you received an email to set up password recovery options for your AT&T Mail account, it is the real deal from AT&T. If you find out that you cannot remember your email or password, we have solutions for you below.

Top 3 Email Solutions

Using a client? Can't Sign In? Yahoo.com vs Currently.com
If you are having a hard time using your client, you may need to set up AT&T's New Security Feature to sign-in. You can also check your mail via a browser. Sometimes we forget our passwords and enter the wrong one. Resetting your password is one of the fastest ways to get back into your account.  If you are routed to AT&T's Sign-in, this is normal. Just use your att.net, sbcglobal.net, or bellsouth.net as normal.
Learn about Oauth and Secure Mail Key and compaible clients Make sure you are using the right ID. Find it now. Still having trouble? Using a different browser or clear cache and cookies

If you are still having issues with loading the login page, go to currently.com and click on the mail icon at the top right.

WebMail and Features Troubleshooting

  • Clear Cache and Cookies - The most common fix

  • Update Your Browser - many features are only compatible with the latest browser and we recommend updating it

  • Test signing in to your webmail using another browser

  • Disable browser tools or add-ons - varies by device and browser

  • Disable your firewall - varies by device and browser

  • Enable Adobe Flash Player - install flash player now

  • Make sure Java is up-to-date - https://www.java.com/en/download/

Have the right browser

Internet Explorer and/ or a Microsoft Edge browser older than 15.x, you will need to upgrade your browser to a supported browser. If you’re using FireFox, Chrome, and/or a Mac-based browser, just sit back, and relax.

Can you keep your email?

In short, yes you can! Our Free Email FAQs page has more information and things you need to know. Please check out the terms and conditions page for more information.

Email Not Going Where It Is Supposed To?

  • Is Your Email Going Into Spam? Trash? Another Folder? - check the rules in webmail to make sure nothing is set up to forward

  • Hacked Email - If your email account was compromised, rules may have been set up without your knowledge

  • 3rd Party Browsers - If you are using a 3rd party mailbox like Outlook, disable it to make sure that mail box is not causing the issues

Note: Some 3rd party mail apps have been known to cause issues and send mail into trash. We highly recommend discontinuing the use of the app and using the Yahoo Mail App.

3rd Party Mailbox - (Outlook, Apple Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird)

You may need to update your client to work with Oauth. You will find step-by-step solutions in our Client Setup Page. You'll find solutions below for generic client issues:

  • Test using webmail - If you are able to sign in to your email via the web, the issue points to the app or mailbox you are using.

  • Mailboxes - we recommend using the latest version. Updates and changes may prevent it from working properly.

  • Rebuild Mailbox profile - In some instances, rebuilding the profile fixes some issues. You may lose email doing this

  • Change your settings from POP to IMAP

  • Test using webmail. If do not experience issues, it could be related to the 3rd party app

  • Client issues - If you are using POP, you must now use IMAP. There was a recent change, this article will explain further

  • AT&T does not officially support or troubleshoot mailboxes/ clients like Outlook

Note: For those of you using Evolution and having issues sending email, go into setting and find Disable Settings For All POP3 Extensions and select it.

Having trouble with Outlook, check out this thread from one of our community members.

POP Vs IMAP Settings

Due to maintenance to upgrade the legacy IMAP host to a modernized IMAP infrastructure, some customers may get an SSL Certificate mismatch error within their e-mail client or mobile device

  • Accept the mismatch to update the SSL certificate for the e-mail to work as normal.

  • If there is no option to accept the certificate, remove the e-mail account and set it up again.

  • For older Android devices without auto-setup change the following settings.

Incoming Mail Server (IMAP) Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
  • Server - imap.mail.att.net

  • Port - 993

  • Requires SSL – Yes

  • Server - smtp.mail.att.net

  • Port - 465 or 587

  • Requires SSL - Yes

  • Requires authentication - Yes

  • Your sign-in info: full email, account password, requires authentication: yes

Spellcheck

The spellcheck feature is no longer supported via webmail and now defaults to the browser spell check option.

Since November 10 thru 12 I have not been able to access bellsouth.net email via Outlook or native Windows mail client. This only affects Windows 10 computers. I verified the email password is correct via Yahoo webmail, Mac mail client and Outlook for Android.

Is the Open Authentication causing this problem or has my Bellsouth.net email account been hacked? I ask because I also received an email via the Bellsouth.net email on my Mac saying I requested to change the password my my AT&T Community Formums account. I did not submit the request but I did change the password just to be safe.

I can no longer receive or send email (bellsouth.net) on my iphone or IPAD. All email setting are correct. (I've checked.) I've also re-input my password several times to no avail.  The error message continues to say "invalid password".  I have used the same password for years with no issue.  If I need to change it, how do I do so? I see only instructions for changing my at&t password - which I have never used for my BellSouth email account. Please instruct me in detail on how to update my BellSouth email password, if this is required. Many thanks for your assistance

I just updated my bellsouth email (via yahoo) password on my desktop PC.  The updated password still does not allow my iphone to send or receive email.

BellSouth email address is [email scrubbed] - and is working fine on my desktop PC!

Beginning Nov,12 2020 I can no longer send or receive email using thunderbird-68.12 thru 78.4.0. At first I thought my password was bad so I reset it. I can still login and check email in a browser so I know my credentials are correct. The error I get is Sending of password for user <me> did not succeed. Mail server inbound.att.net responded: Server error - Please try again later. I have tried changing my authentication from "Normal password" to oauth2 but I get The server does not support the selected authentication method. Please change the 'Authentication method' in the 'Account Settings | Server settings'. Although there is no field in thunderbird to enter a secure mail key, I even tried using one as a password.
inbound is inbound.att.net on 995 and outbound is outbound.att.net on 465.Connections ecurity is SSL/TLS for both.

I really need some help to solve this problem.

Hello.  Hope all is well.

My sbcglobal.net email address (of at least 15 years) is no longer accessible.  I've been an ATT customer for about 20 years now and have just transitioned to UVERSE within the last year.

My login and password are not working via the website and not working via my email client.  I haven't been able to log in via the site for awhile and therefore have just retrieved mail via the email client.  However, now that is no longer working as of the last few days.

Based on my research, a lot of people are suggesting that this is because of the Yahoo/ATT merger and it's been an issue with many people for awhile now.

I've tried going to several of the ATT Homepages as has been suggested in forums such as the "Currently" page.  I'm still not getting access and it's even stating that I've tried too many attempts.  The only suggestions that I haven't tried is changing my Password or creating a Security Key simply because I'm not sure if I have a linked account for the email address and therefore not sure if that would make the situation worse.

I'd appreciate any help.

Thank you.

Just an update that I tried to create a Security Key in order to continue using my non OAuth compliant email client so that I could update the settings.  However it's required that you log into your email account (which I can't) to do so.

I also tried to open Windows Mail to start that up as it's apparently OAuth compliant but again it's required that you log into your email account (which I can't) to do so.

In regard to the issue about a email sending/receiving issue I posted about - can't find the post. Anyway, I talked to an awesome Tech Support person name of Tina. I explained what my issue with email was, she immediately knew what the issue was, walked me thru step by step what I needed to do - problem solved. The issue was the secure email key thing, which I have to admit I wasn't aware of, but I sure as heck am now...

I know the Tech Support folks get a-lot of bad press on the Forums, but this time, I got Tina...

I think she needs to be recognized for her effort to help me resolve my issue. FYI, my email is working fine now. I've done the secure email thing for all the email accounts my family uses...

Aloha!

Starting a few days ago, my email clients suddenly stopped working with my att.net email accounts.

I can still use the yahoo webmail interface and check my email but it doesn't work on Thunderbird email app for Mac, or on my iPhone.

Anyone else experiencing the same issues?  Any fixes or pointers on what may be going wrong?

Thanks.

Fixed mine by creating a secure mail password and using that instead of my previous password that I used for several years. That fixed Thunderbird iphone and ipad.

I tried to log in and received the following message:

"Double check your ID and password, and try again. If you haven't set up your account, tap the 'Create one now' link.

CARE CODE: 201 [LU100]"

Then I asked the system to send me my ID to ensure it wasn't changed. AT&T emailed me. It was the same. I typed my ID into the forgot password box (to ensure someone didn't hack in and change it), along with my surname, and I received this message:

"Something's gone wrong. Please refresh the page and try again."

I don't know what to do next. I've had this email address forever. It is a legacy email address from years and years ago when I was an AT&T dial-up POTS customer. Never had this kind of problem.

We're here to help @jmmcgov, with getting access to your email account.

  • Are you using an email client when logging into your email and if so what client are you currently using?
  • A Secure Mail Key is needed when accessing email clients that is not OAuth compatible,

Please let us know if that works for you.

I can log into my email account via Yahoo.com, but Outlook is telling me my password is blank. I found a page and suggested I use the How I Sign In page to set up security. The page is blank. No matter what browser I use. I have deleted and recreated the Outlook account profile in O365 but I continually get a password complaint. I have another ATT account in the same instance of Outlook and it is working fine.

I have been using Thunderbird for my emails for over ten years. BUT today nothing is working. I cannot access my emails. I did see an answer to another user that mentions OAuth technology and needing a key number. My poor brain doesn't compute how to find out if Thunderbird has OAuth technology or where one can obtain a key number. How can I resolve this problem? Anyone with answers??? I am thinking about deleting the ATT email account and recreating, but I'm much to afraid that things will be more messed up. Thanking you in advance!.

My thunderbird client still works fine. Yes thunderbird is OAuth compliant if your version is not too old. I though I would have to set up a secure email key for thunderbird but never had to. Perhaps that is what you need to do. You should see a link at the top of this page in the Announcements box that will take you to instructions.
