email NOT working on my iphone

I have been using email on my phone regularly..  when I take a pic with the phone, I will send it to my email address so I can open on the computer..  Today, I tried to send a picture to myself so I could download onto the computer and it says my email address and/or password is incorrect for  imap.mail.att.net

  I have NOT changed anything on the phone.. it is the same as it has been ...  

  WHAT IS WRONG AND HOW DO I FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    I USE MY EMAIL ON THE PHONE AND I NEED THIS TO BE WORKING

I would try deleting the email account from the phone and re-adding it. Another option is to use your browser and access the web interface.

 this does NOT work..  I've tried 6 or more times..  shut down the phone and rebooted and tried again... I cannot get past the imap  and smtp map section..  it continually tells me
  Cannot get mail  the user name or password for "Imap.mail.att.net" is incorrect....         user name is the email address    [edited for privacy-please do not post personal or unique information such as but not limited to full names, employee ID numbers, email addresses, phone numbers, account numbers, etc.]@sbcglobal.net       my password if working.. as I am able to sign into my email here on the computer...       I retyped them over and over...   still I get the same message... 
      the email was working fine one day and the next.. it quit working and I cannot get it set back up....    I don't know what else to try....         I've re-entered it over and over and rebooted the phone over and over again...      I'm using Version 12.2 IOS

I have retried over and over to get the email to work but I continually get the same error message... rebooting the phone and trying again don't work... I know my password IS correct because I can sign into my email on the computer with no problem... like I said.. My email was working fine one day and suddenly it stopped and gave me the error message that the user name or password was incorrect for the imap  

   I can't get into it further to check the port numbers.. but none of that should have changed.. I haven't done anything with the settings on it... I never touch that area...  it's been working so haven't had a reason to go into the settings for my email... 

 

    I hope you can come up with a solution.. I use the email on the phone all the time to send myself a photo to my email so can put on the computer... and to send some photos I take with the phone to my friends...

I have deleted from the phone and tried to re-add, but it will not allow me to add it back.. so now it is off the phone and will not allow me to add on.. continually tells me the user nameand/or password is incorrect for the imap...

I had this same problem, and realized that it began after I changed my AT&T billing plan, and signed up for WatchTV.  Somehow signing up for WatchTV forced me to create a new password, which then became the new password for my full AT&T access.

Interestingly, email was still working on my computer, even though I never updated that password.  It only stopped working on my phone & iPad. Now that I'm using the new password (that I thought was only for WatchTV) as my normal AT&T password - everything is working.

thank you... .. I think I gave up on adding it and added it a different way through yahoo....    AT&T seems to be good at screwing things up...  I used to be able to network my two laptops together to use one printer...  then suddenly it no longer works...Iworked 3 days trying to get the problem solved... I do know it is a problem with their Gateway Modem and no way to set the status of an IP address unless you reset the modem which means you have to go through trying to get your password back to what you want... and then there is no guarantee....  I found an  HP tech knows more about the AT&Tgateway modem than the AT&T techs do...    SAD

How were you able to access it? I am having the same exact problem. It keeps telling me my user name and/or password are incorrect, but neither are. I did not switch any plans. It worked up until Friday, then it stopped. My desktop bellsouth.net email works fine, it's just on the phone that it won't. I deleted it, but now I can't add it back on. I want to throw the phone against the wall.. or at least against the head of someone at AT&T.

I havent been able to access my email for weeks.  Well, I take that back,  Actually on my iphone after I receive an email, it goes right into my trash folder.  So instead of reading my email from the inbox, i have to go to Trash. 
I cant even get my email on my laptop at all.  I've tried removing, re-adding, rebooting a million times.

How can I fix my att.net email to work properly.  I've had this email for years and never had this problem

turn off all the servers but the primary one go to settings passwords click on the yahoo ( or ATT account) click on the account ( the att email) click on outgoing mail server leave or click ON primary server

under OTHER SMPT servers click all of them OFF they conflict with the primary

I was on the phone for over an hour today with ATT Tech Support (based in India, of course) and they could not fix this exact same issue. Two of my ATT accounts will no longer work on my iPhone or iPad, it just says "Account Errors" and nothing I do will get beyond this:

The mail server "imap.mail.att.net" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in the mail settings.

I try to verify it and it says the Password is not correct, even though it is. The same problem that people above have posted. The ATT Tech Support rep on the phone today said after an hour of trying to fix it that it is an APPLE issue, not an ATT one. Please help, does anyone know a fix for this?! The ones posted above are either too confusing to decipher due to folks not proofreading before they post or because they are not effetive fixes. If anyone can help, please do. Thank you in advance.

AT&T uses Yahoo servers and they changed settings a few months ago. I recall getting a notice but since things were working I took no action. Go to Settings-Accounts and delete your existing AT&T email account. Add a new account but choose Yahoo as the account type (used to be Other) and enter your AT&T credentials, it took me to an external Yahoo page. When done it took me back into Settings. You can change the name of the account if desired. it worked fine after that.

Found this out the hard way when my wife changed the master password for our AT&T accounts which had my email as primary. I changed the password in my email settings but it wouldnt work, nor would deleting and adding back the account (as Other) which was the old way.

I get the same error on my phone for 2 of my att emails that stopped working. Two others do continue to work on my phone.

The mail server "imap.mail.att.net" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in the mail settings.

I tried adding as a Yahoo account and also just as a mail account on my iphone. When I set up as mail, I get the incorrect account info. When I try to set it up as yahoo mail, it keeps me in a spinning cycle of asking me to set up a new password and then sends me back to login, set up a new password, sends me back to login over and over and over and over and over I can login on the computer but cannot add to my cell phone. Any resolution to this?

I also can no longer see my sub email accounts when I login to my att :( :( :(

I spent 3 hours trying to get to my email sub accounts by following AT&T's site instructions, they do not show up on our account anymore but I can access them through a web browser. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Having the exact same problem Barbara above is explaining on my wife’s phone. One day it was working fine and then all of a sudden att email quit working on her iPhone. Went to add the account t Lon phone using Yahoo and get placed into a vicious, never ending loop of logging in and then having to create a new password. Once new pass is created, back to log in screen. Once done there, it takes back to change password screen. Over and over and over. 

beyond frustrating!!  Her email works just fine on a PC with the credentials, or even in a web page on the phone. 

please help someone!!!

Can you please provide a more information about the issue?

  • Are you too using an iPhone?
  • Are you using a Legacy mail account like sbcglobal.net, pacbell.net, bellsouth.net or your att.net account?
  • Are you using an app, or a browser?
  • Are you getting an error message?

We suggest changing your mail password then try sending a test message. If the problem continues you'll need to Check your account, settings, connectivity, and browser.

Thank you McCorma!! It worked. I have experienced all of the above including many hours on the phone with ATT and much frustration trying to get email working. 

On iPhone and iPad:

Settings

go to either “Passwords & Accounts” or “Mail” depending which you have.

Then tap on “Accounts”.  
Tap on the account that you are having trouble with, then Delete Account

Power off your device, then power on

Settings

“Passwords & Accounts” or “Mail”, depending on which you have

Accounts

Add Account

Yahoo (NOT other) -then enter email and password

When complete be sure to save in upper right corner.

I am having the same issue - I cannot access my email on my iPhone or Mac as of Thursday, November 12. I changed my password and can access email on a web browser through yahoo mail, but that's it. I've been on hold with support for HOURS this morning, with reps that have no idea what they are talking about. Incredibly frustrated. ATT customer service and tech support is horrible.
