Can’t access sbcglobal.net email on iPhone with imap settings

I have not been getting sbcglobal.net emails on my iPhone. I keep getting a message that my settings are wrong. After trying to manually put in the IMAP settings found on the AT&T site for the sbcglobal.net account (IMAP.mail.att.net, 993, etc) it still didn’t work.

So, I deleted my email account from my phone, choose Other when setting it back up as a new account. Put in my email address @sbcglobal.net and my password (which I just changed, so I KNOW is right) and keep getting the message “the username or password for ‘IMAP.mail.att.net’ is incorrect” I really want to use IMAP but this is so frustrating. I even tried to use the old IMAP.mail.yahoo.com and IMAP.att.yahoo.com, all found on various forums, but no luck. I also turned my phone off and back on after each of these changes. PLEASE help!

Hi there @Mgblaker,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community Forums! I’m sorry to hear you are having trouble accessing your email from you iPhone. Being able to get our emails while on the go is definitely something we want to make sure gets addressed. I am happy to help!

I see you have tried a number of different troubleshooting steps. In order to look further into this for you, I have a couple of additional questions; are you able to access your email from your home computer with your new login information?

Secondly, have you tried setting your email up using the POP3 settings? Here is the list of Email client server settings with the POP3 information.

If you have questions, please let us know!

I too have this problem..

After the yahoo and sbcglobal accounts were un-merged, I was able to access my email in Yahoo and my sbcglobal email at att.net respectively.  I set up my mobile IOS device to access email by configuring the att.net account.  After a couple of days of accessing my email, I started seeing errors that my details were inaccurate.  Trying several devices, browsers, etc without success; I finally reached out to Tech support.  They passed me over to digital assistance.  Over the past two weeks, I have spoken with several people from several different locations, (Digital Assistance, Landline, etc). and tried several different things to access my email.  Each attempt is a failure. I have been told "it is a known issue, wait 24 - 48 hours for resolution,  it's Yahoo's problem, everything under the sun, but a resolution.  It has been over a week and no email.  Technician has reset the password, technician stated your account is out of sync and re-synced it, you name it, we have tried it.

I can get the main home page att.net, review my account details, and the number of unread emails is showing in the upper right hand corner by the envelope.  The number showing in att.net home page is also the number of unread emails in my yahoo account.. go figure!  When I attempt to access email, I am directed to a login page, even though I am already logged into the att.net home page.  Entering my credentials and clicking enter, just performs a redirect back to the login page and that circle would continues.

Frustrating to say the least!  Of course this email account has job sites linked to it,  and jobs I have applied to. Not to mention, I have some billing departments using this account, all of which I cannot access.  Who knows what I am missing!!

And calling ATT support is a disaster as I closed all of my former ATT (Phone) or uverse (Internet) accounts due to high cost and poor customer service.  The sbcglobal account is now be considered a free email account, but it is currently not accessible.

This goes much deeper than imap and pop settings.   As an IT professional with experience resolving simple issues like this, this is out of our hands.  See my post and frustrations.

I deleted my sbcglobal account from my iPhone and set it up again fresh with the recommended settings. At first I had the same problem and then it spontaneously started working again. I don’t think it was anything I did. Maybe it was a server issue that was resolved. I don’t know. But, it’s working again.

Great that you got it working again..  Still no luck here..  Tried everything on iphone including deleting and adding again.  Tried the OAuth process, and still no luck.  But I can't even access my email using a computer, even though I can l successfully log into start.att.net.  The envelope in the upper right hand corner shows the count of emails in my Yahoo account, not my sbcglobal account.  Trying to access email displays the login page, and after entering and clicking submit, just cycles the page again asking for login information..  so my problems are much deeper.

Can't receive sbcglobal mail, but I can send mail. Must be some issue with the incoming mail server.

Hey Denise,

When you going to realize the info you have posted on ATT's site is worthless and doesn't work???  Take that stuff down as it's dated and completely worthless.

I seriously doubt anyone in your illustrious organization has the skill or ability to solve any of the problems ATT is causing their customers.

What gives with the sbcglobal.net email system???

Go change your password and come back with another snappy answer....that isn't going to work.

The server settings referenced earlier are not incorrect.  I believe the problems some users are having using them is due to something else and more subtle.  What I think all (or most) these users have in common are having accounts that were recently unmerged from yahoo like sbcglobal.net. The servers are most likely having problems with the accounting/authorization info for these accounts since IMO att and yahoo completely botched the unmerging in modifying these data bases and putting the burden on their users to try to figure it out.  If it is such an error you can stare at your server setting until you are blue in the face and won't ever be able to figure out what is wrong.

Some can correct the accounting/authorization data simply by recreating it, i.e., delete the account and create it as a new account.  But there is no guarantee.  Most email client apps have some way to trace the email protocol exchange between the client and server.  But that means the user (a) needs to find out how to do it - google it, and (b) understand enough of the debug output of the protocol exchange to understand where it went wrong and why.  User's shouldn't have to do that but it's been a while since the unmerge and att and yahoo don't appear to be interested in helping.   They keep repeating the standard boiler plate troubleshooting not understanding the problem may be deeper than that.

At any rate, that's my take on all this and to reiterate that the server information is correct and not out of date.

Interesting take on the issue, I'll admit.

Nonetheless, since I, and others, cannot access our email using the information provided by ATT's DIY instructions, it's worthless.

Not my circus, not my monkey.

They're taking my money for service they are not providing and obviously cannot service.

Hi all,

This has been a known issue. For some reason, the mail app on the iPhone does not work with att.net. Using the Yahoo Mail app is recommended.

Consider using the secure mail key.  I had a similar problem after resetting my sbcglobal.net password.  I kept getting Authentication failures on my Android email app as well as connection failures in Mac mail.  I added a secure mail key per AT&T's email support article linked below.  You generate a key and use that as your password.  It worked.
