AT&T New Mail

New_Email.jpgStarting September 5th, 2018 all .net ‘webmail’ customers will start to receive notifications about an upcoming email upgrade starting in October.  This new mail experience only affects ‘desktop’ webmail users and will include a more responsive ‘search’ capability, easier to use ‘settings’ menu, overall improved views, and much more!

FAQ:

When will I upgrade?

AT&T New Mail will begin to rollout to AT&T users October 2018.

Do I have to upgrade?

Yes, the planned upgrade will affect all desktop webmail users.

What is changing?

Only the user interface for ‘desktop’ webmail.  The new email upgrade is designed to take advantage of today’s more modern and supported browsers.

What must I do to prepare for the upgrade?

The upgrade is simple - nothing in your email, folders, notes, calendar, or address book is changing. Your mailbox is only upgrading to a new and improved look and feel.

If you’re using FireFox, Chrome, and/or a Mac based browser, just sit back, and relax. If you’re currently using Internet Explorer and or a Microsoft Edge browser older than 15.x then please upgrade your browser to a supported browser.

I think what everyone is failing to understand is that these changes are NOT to make the AT&T/Yahoo email product better but rather to frustrate the customers so they will simply move to gmail, outlook, or some email service provider. Fewer email customers = less expense of infrastructure required to provide the email service.

I think once customers grasp what and why these changes are taking place, they will understand that complaining is pointless. These changes were never intended to make this a better product but rather to drive the email customer away.

another reality is ATT is allowing people to use att.net to get to their email, oh wait they flip you to Yahoo and want the login again.

when you setup your email you will notice the pop location is att, net. I wonder if they are going to flip to yahoo here also. Lately I have noticed failures when my email program is trying to login and do a download. Wonder if ATT is flipping to Yahoo for all email AFTER they add marketing and other spam to the web pages or the email links.Cat Mad

As someone who retired from AT&T I can tell you that when the company moved email service from their servers to Yahoo and laid off all the telephone company technicians that maintained those servers that permanently ended the AT&T responsibility for email services.

All complaints about email email services should be directed to Yahoo. Unfortunately, since AT&T customers have no direct relationship with Yahoo as they are nothing more that a contractor for AT&T the customer has no options except to seek email service elsewhere! That is just the sad truth.

RE: " I can't send emails to students who have emails "att.net"

If sent en masse, then a chance email server has a program running which dumps them.

Also:  Email service providers can't send to/from Yahoo Mail addresses

An interesting point about this mess that Yahoo created back in September. Apple iPad & iPhone users are NOT impacted at all by these changes using the built in Apple email service‼️

Hi director,

I'm just a disgruntled customer, too. I finally avoided the problem by
using a stand-alone email server like Thunderbird. I use MS Outlook to
send/receive email, myself.

I understand totally what you are saying, however you comment about using Yahoo is unjust and holds no bearing with the situation.

AT&T made the decision to use Yahoo's email and Yahoo even though as a contractor by doing such they are still responsible for everything associated with yahoo's email that is used for AT&T email services, so AT&T cannot pass the issues on to no one but themselves.

AT&T cannot use the excuse hey we are lazy, we laid off folks, and now our email is through yahoo. That is not an acceptable answer nor fix for the situation. AT&T took on the obligation and responsibility of yahoo's email services when they signed the contract.

I work for Toyota and ever single vendor Toyota uses for the building the Toyota's vehicles / products, etc, Toyota assumes the responsibility of their contractor because Toyota put said contractor's parts in their final product sold to their customers.

Lars, you cannot legally pass the issue onto yahoo to fix at&t email issues.

AT&T really screwed up going to yahoo email and now this is AT&T's issue to fix, not directing the customers to the link in your post which says to contact your contractors.

AT&T assumed the responsibilities of their contractors when they hired them, regardless if it is installation, web-based, web-hosted, etc. etc. etc..

First of all, Toyota sells a product, cars and trucks. AT&T sells SERVICE so comparing the two is apples and oranges. When I went to work at legacy AT&T (Long Lines) decades ago, the manager told everyone, “The only thing we have to sell is SERVICE. If we don’t do that well, then we have no business being in business”. Truer words were never spoken. That was decades ago. This new AT&T has a totally different philosophy. It is money driven NOT service driven.

Here are the facts. AT&T decided some years ago, to leave the email business as a cost cutting measure. They contracted that work out to Yahoo. Now Yahoo, which was recently acquired by Verizon, is doing the same thing, cutting costs. Do you think Verizon is concerned about the quality of the email service they provide to AT&T through Yahoo? HARDLY! They could care less! AT&T, on the other hand, could and should find a replacement for Yahoo since Verizon acquired it.

The bottom line line is it’s ALL about money NOT good service. They know that if the customer becomes sufficiently unhappy, he/she will go elsewhere for cellphone service. That small loss to them is much less than the much higher cost of paying for a Yahoo replacement or bringing email service back “in-house”.

Read the reply from the ATTcares input and you will see the issue.

ATT points to Yahoo who points to ATT who points to Yahoo who points to ATT who then points to OATH who is clueless and points back to ATT who then points to another forum post.

Got IT?

Not sure who your post is directed to but if you read from the beginning you will see the back and forth with no real resolve for the initial post question.

People generally go to forums to get help from someone who may have had the same issue. In most cases they get a reply that solves the problem. when forum admins or others who think they have all the answers reply with information that does not solve the issue but simply points away from ATT then we have what we see here.

Anyway , lighten up and don't take the posts against ATT too seriously. We all know ATT has a direction that is not continuing with telephone poles and cable.Smiley Very Happy

I have no ill intent to anyone other than AT&T whom hire contractors to perform their duties and state it is the contractors responsibility to make sure things are working, when in fact it is AT&T responsibility to make sure their contractor performs to their standards.

I use to defend AT&T in the past, but with their inability and unwillingness to help us the customer, if I ever get anyone other provider to supply me with TV, Home Phone, Internet, at home I am gone from AT&T so fast it is not funny.

My neighbors all listen to me as well and they are more than ready to leave AT&T for a different alternative.

AT&T has been promising my entire neighbor U-verse for 5 years now and still nothing, plus my friend works for the state AG's office and in 2015 AT&T proposed "forgive me I forget the name of what AT&T called it" but it was to drop home phone coverage and force everyone to mobile services, which the State AG's office denied.

I was also told a few months ago, someone in my areas dropped DSL and went to hughes net due to we are stuck with DSL in my area, well they tried going back to the DSL and AT&T refused to give them that service and told them they plan on eventually phasing it out.

AT&T's fixed wireless is another joke of a service, denying someone the ability to log into secured servers that have multiple firewalls due to they set up the modem as a proxy to change IP addresses every time you attempt to do a secured log in.

For AT&T to be the largest telecommunications company in the world they sure run it like a mom and pop shop with very limited services
