Target and AT&T bundling promotion

Got call, told that Target was underwriting a bundling service for "select" customers that would combine all AT&T services (directv, which I hate, cell and internet) for over half of what I'm currently paying. Put almost $300 credit on my AT&T bill. Sounded too good to be true, took hours to reach anyone at AT&T, they said it was a scam. Ph # WAS to Directv, however, and credit was posted. Asked if they could withdraw it, they couldn't tell me. Requires pmt in advance for 4 mos service $492.20 and MUST be put on a Target gift card. Asked that everything be verified in writing by people who offered it, supposed to be done now. Went online, there IS a Target/ATT deal to use fiber optic for TV (which would solve my issues w/Directv) & internet. Was using Uverse fiber optic w/no problems; sales rep @ ATT store near me told me Uverse was being discontinued & that I'd get everything I needed w/Directv, including recordings, which I told her were really important. Wasn't told there was a limit & I'd have to pay more, which negated the savings. Internet went down a f weeks ago, had NO tv, contacted ATT & said I wanted to go back to Uverse. Told I can't, that new customers are no longer eligible, I've been a customer for 40 yrs, Directv misrepresented to me by ATT employee, again told no (by 5 ppl).

Has anyone heard of this? They said the offer was very limited. They had access to my ATT account, knew my info, etc. Thx

When it comes to DIRECTV, know this, because it’s ALWAYS going to be true:

  • DIRECTV will never ask you to pay upfront to receive discounted services or activate some exclusive promotion or replace your current equipment.
  • DIRECTV does not accept any third-party gift cards from retailers like eBay, Amazon or anyone else as a legitimate form of payment.

If you think you’re the target of a prepaid card scam:

  • Hang up on any suspicious caller immediately. Do not engage any further. Offering up any personal information, no matter how innocent, can ultimately cost you.
  • Contact us directly to ensure you are speaking with an official DIRECTV representative about your service or current promotional offers.
  • Report Prepaid card scam phone calls or text messages targeting DIRECTV customers to help make others aware.

Anyone who says "must pay with ____ gift card" is scamming you.  No legitimate offer will ever require you to pay with a gift card.

THIS.  IS.  A.  SCAM!!!

There are numerous other red flags here:

1) You got called

2) You'll get half-off

3) You must prepay for months of service in advance

While this is true (https://get.directv.com/target/) customers are directed to use the number posted or order online.  They do not call you.

Sorry....but if you provided personal or account information or if you put money on a Target gift card, you have been scammed.

Something similar happened to me today. AT&T sent me a text message ,last day to get 50% off DirecTV". Called DirecTV and the person answered offered me $140 a month fixed for 2 years. I had to pay 3 months in advance, $420 via a Target credit card or Target gift card. This is a target DirecTV AT&T promotion supposedly. The person I talked to zeroed out my balance showing in my AT&T app account. I logged in and had a balance , logged out as instructed waited a minute , he told me to log back in and sure enough the balance was Zero . he also gave me MGM Plus for free with this program. He added MGM as I talked to him. This guy works for DirecTV, had access to my billing information and had access to add programming to my TV channel lineup. He must have been an employee of AT&T to have this access. He screwed up when he had me pay with a Target gift card and told me not to tell the sellers it was a third party because they might charge extra. Just tell him it's a gift for your cousin or something. Almost fell for it since they had access to my account and TV channels. You can't even trust AT&T or DirecTV. Their employees are Crooks too. I received a confirmation text welcome me to the new program but it wasn't from DirecTV this time, it was from the targaryens.com. luckily I didn't fall for it and did not give them a dime Beware! FYI the entire conversation was recorded and screenshots of the text messages were taken and offered to DirecTV fraud Department. Tell you the truth I'm not sure they even have one. After a runaround, I was given an email address and I sent them the information. Hopefully they'll do something about it.

Called DirecTV ...

No, you called a number that someone that you should not have trusted told you was for DIRECTV.  Everything that follows after that was an unrelated scammer and you.  You would be surprised how much you will tell a good social engineering practitioner without knowing what you're doing.   It's just like talking to a radio psychic.
