Is it normal for an outage to last over a week?

I live in a zip code that has a majority student population. The outage page indicates that there is an outage affecting almost 200 people in our area. Classes start tomorrow, and the outage has been affecting our area for OVER A WEEK with no indication of when it will be fixed. Calling the tech support line leads nowhere, ending with a robot telling me to put in my # to be notified when the outage is fixed. (I think I will know when it's fixed.) Internet access is more important than ever and it is ridiculous to be a student with online classes with no internet access for a week. The whole point of having internet at home is so you don't need to travel elsewhere for wifi, and with COVID we would rather not have to go to campus for internet access, which I think any sane person right now would not want to do.

May I ask how you are able to find out how many are affected by the outage?  I’ve been without for 3 days and work from home and can’t get any answers!  Just says “outage”....

When you navigate to att.com/outages, input your zip code, it should say "Customers Affected:" followed by the number. For our zip code it says 101-200.
