I thought I was the only one.

After reading the other complaints in this forum I see that what I have been put thru by ATT is not the exception but the norm. ATT overcharges their customers as a practice then when you don't pay their bogus charges they turn your service off, essentially blackmailing their customers.

They hire out of country persons for customer care who lie to people trying to get their accounts corrected. They let you think they helped you only to find, the following month that they did nothing and the problem has gotten worse. I have wasted more time explaining my issue and being given the run around than I've ever wasted on anything in my life! They constantly overcharge. They need to pay all the people forced to waste hours trying to correct their bills and services. Recently they pulled a blatant scam on me. They called me to tell me they were having a free preview week of Showtime. They asked me if I would watch. I said I would. So I get my bill and they illegally added Showtime to my account. I requested my due date be the 3rd of the month since my service began. Every month they charge me a late fee that I refuse to pay. Now because of the showtime and unpaid late fees they shut me down. I will never watch tv again before I ever pay them all the illegal charges they claim I owe. Its blood money and ATT are the biggest crooks and criminals I've ever come in contact with. They claim to value their customers, they only care about taking our money. I am reporting ATT to the FCC and BBB today. Probably won't do any good. ATT is so big. They don't care about anything customers can do cause it doesn't affect them. They can hurt anyone they want and never be held accountable. This country and its ideals have become so perverted by big companies like ATT. They keep stepping on the little guys and nobody can stop them. I'm so disappointed in everything.

You have posted in the INTERNET forum when it would appear that your issue is relating to one of the TV services:  AT&T TV, DirecTV or Uverse TV.

If you could clarify, your post can be moved.

Problem is that Covid left them severely short staffed of in-house agents. They even had to close some call centers (temporarily). This resulted in an increase in outsourcing to make up the difference. Don't know how long it is going to take to get back to what actually would be normal, but they have a long road ahead of them.

You mention Showtime which would be for a TV service. This is the internet forum. If TV service can be clarified, then you could get guidance specific to it (or at least moved into the correct section of the forum for more visibility).

Some services the due date cannot be changed. Such as DirecTV it is based on when your service was activated. You are only charged a late fee if the service month has started over, meaning it is over 30 days since the bill produced. Refusing to pay because you don't like the due date doesn't work in your favor. All that does is build up your past due and eventually hits your credit as it is a valid charge until they adjust it (if ever).
