Bill Charges

Why is it At&t charges people even though they didn't use the internet line at all for a month or so? They didn't even offer a discount on the next bill charge when we called to cancel and said we didnt use the internet they know for a fact that it wasnt used. What the (Edited per community guidelines), if I didn't use your line service I shouldn't have had to pay for that line! I got charged for it 137$ including my phone service even though my 5G I used out and about was crap. As soon as I get the chance I'm switching to another service since they can't even give good service when not at home and I was paying on a business line for the fastest network.

1.  AT&A has no idea if your internet is being used or not.

2.  Your final bill is not prorated so you will pay for a full billing cycle if you cancel in the middle of your billing cycle.

Internet service is subscription based. That means you pay for it as long as you have it, regardless of how much or little (or even not at all) you use it. How little you use it makes no difference. That is how internet works for practically any carrier.

If you knew you weren't going to use it then that was your chance to cancel, or possibly suspend if it was just going to be a couple months. Regardless, now you should have an understanding on how a monthly service works no matter what company you go with.

Thank you for the unhelpful comments. Also no need to tell me how it works I am well aware and if you aren't an employee you don't have expertise enough to say so.

Hi @MIMZY, we know how important is to have the most accurate help about your billing concerns. Thanks for bringing this to our notice, and we want to help get this taken care of.

The Community Forums are a public support option where other users, and AT&T, will try and assist with high level support needs.  This means we won’t be able to look into account specific concerns. To get the help you need for your unique issue, please review our Contact Us page, and choose the best option to reach out to us. You can call, chat, or reach out via social media and we can review your specific issue and provide you support. If you feel your issue isn’t account specific, and can be answered generally, please let us know and we’ll be happy to help.

Thank you,

Jasmine, AT&T Community Specialist.

Actually, most of us ACEs have waaaayyyyy more experience with AT&T services than many of the employees do.

Good luck with your new ISP.  🤷‍♂️

@MIMZY

The comments were helpful as it educated you on the reality of the situation instead of the false perception you had at the start of this thread. If you were truly well aware of how it works, you wouldn't be claiming you shouldn't have been charged what you were.

Also a lot of us have been around the block enough to have the expertise how it works. Sometimes that is more than an actual employee. Being an employee doesn't automatically give them expertise, as all were a new hire once and there are bad ones in the mix of course.

But with your attitude, what would it matter an employee telling you the reality as well? Seems you just want to throw a tantrum and blame everyone else when in the end you are the one in the wrong.

Yeah people like you just assume you are right and know everything. But you don't. I am irritated with the fact mostly the internet I paid for when I was actively using it, the 5g data worked like crap could hardly even use it when not at home. Do you have anything better to do than try and prove yourself right all the time on the internet?

So you have ATT Internet Air?  Internet Air uses AT&Ts 5g network.  Regular wired internet service does not.

However if you were having a technical issue, then you call AT&T to discuss and depending on the situation get a time without service credit it was fully out or perhaps a negotiated partial credit if it wasn't working consistently. But if you just don't use it and complain after the fact then there is nothing to credit. The better option would have been to cancel the data plan before that month+ as AT&T is not going to adjust your bill based on usage itself.

Your complaint was you didn't use it so you say you should be credited. The fact is while service is active on the account you pay for it no matter how much you use it. No carrier goes back and adjusts your bill for low/no usage. Sorry but how you feel things 'should' be done doesn't change how they actually work.
