I had AT&T internet about 2 years ago.
When I moved out I canceled quickly within a matter of 3 days returned my box.
A year later to my surprise I found out that they were continuing to bill my account.
I called them and they returned only 6 months for service that I did not even receive.
Afterward I put a stop payment on AT&T.
Yesterday I received a letter from afni saying I owed a bill of $240.
I called AT&T and they could not identify what this charge was for.
They said that since the account was closed I should not owe anything and they looked into what the charge was for they could not determine a reason.
They suggested that I go to a AT&T store.
I also called afni I asked them to produce a bill so I could show evidence that said something to the extent that they would try to produce one.
afni told me that they would settle for ~$156 and the bill would go away.
Today at the store they mentioned that they might have had a return payment issue but did not mention what months I owed or when this occurred and if it was a bulk or multiple charge.
However, they said that they do not have the ability to produce a bill since the service was canceled.
I do not see how a collection agency or AT&T can charge me for a miscellaneous fee without giving me a fair shot to prove that the bill is erroneous.
I believe that I have already been overcharge and would like to show evidence by my bank however neither AT&T nor afni seem to have a process for reviewing my bill.
