When is Faster AT&T Speed Going to be Available? - Info from the AT&T Community

Learn why faster AT&T speeds may not be available

First thing first, AT&T is working on expanding internet service as fast as possible. Unfortunately, a lot of planning, equipment, manpower, and time factor in. When are faster speeds coming? We do not have a date. What we can do is explain why it may not be available, yet, what to look out for, and how to research your address.

Gigabit Speeds, When Is It Coming?

We are continually expanding our fiber footprint to more households every day. If you’d like to check if service is available to you now or to sign up for a notification if it does become available in the future, please visit att.com/NotifyMe . We will send you a notification via your preferred method as soon as AT&T Fiber becomes available to you.

5 Gig internet is the next evolution of internet. At this time, we are working on expanding that footprint but AT&T does not have information on which neighborhoods will get it and when. Our support teams are also unable to give timelines as they can change.

If AT&T Fiber is available, you can order now!

Note:  AT&T Internet is not available in all areas, but AT&T is working to change that! Below, you will find information explaining:

  • Why services may not be available?
  • Other AT&T internet options?
  • News about AT&T Fiber expansions?

Why AT&T Internet is not available

  1. Distance – AT&T Internet is a distance-dependent service. If you are too far away from the equipment, certain services may not be available. This means your neighbor may have service but your home cannot.
  2. Equipment is not available – To get service, AT&T Internet equipment has to be in the area. In some instances, it isn't. As above, this could mean a neighbor may have it but service was not expanded to your home. We do not have information if or when it will be. If you have 1 Gig Fiber and want to upgrade to 5 Gig, please be patient with us we work to expand that footprint.
  3. The area is not built for AT&T Internet/ Fiber – some areas are not internet ready. The Community team does not have information if or when it will be since installation is factor dependent as mentioned at the top of the page. Distance and equipment can also play a factor in instances like this.
  4. Another competitor services the area - This happens from time to time but it does not mean all services are not available to you. Check out other internet options below!
  5. For some internet services, what is offered during the point of sale is an estimate. Most of the time, what is offered will be installed. To determine if service is available, our techs will perform tests beforehand and let you know of any issues.

Note: AT&T has two ways to bring traditional internet to your home, via copper lines or fiber. To get Gigabit speeds, fiber is required. In order to get internet and/or higher speeds, you must be within a certain distance of the serving equipment and the equipment must be present in the area.

I see they are spraying lines, is AT&T on the way?

Maybe. Marking locations is a best practice for most outside crews. They are used to mark an area where a gas line may be or even a water line. On the other side, it could mean AT&T is going to place cable. Until cable and everything that powers internet is placed, our internal systems will not be updated. You can fill out a form, shown below, for more information.

We have DirecTV and ATT cell service. ATT just completed fiber in my neighborhood. My account is showing as ineligible for fiber. How can I get the fiber speed without having to drop DirecTV?

Is there any plans to get wireless internet to the Thumb Area of Michigan (particularly Deckerville Area)?  This is a very rural and under served area.  The current wireless in the area is running 2-5 mbps in optimal conditions but less than 1 mbps in the evening.  The DSL (24/2 Mbps) which I have from another provider only reaches said speeds after midnight, in the evenings it runs 2/2.  I noticed tonight my cell phone was running close to 50 Mbps.  Just wondered if there were any future plans here. This has been an ongoing issue since the early 2000s.  DSL showed up in 2010, eased the pain for a while but we're right back where we started.

Explain me this ATT.  I live about .3 miles outside of my current city (Hopkinsville, KY) and can't get uverse or high speed internet but if I continue to go another mile past my house you are installing new services for those people further out of city limits!? How the heck is that possible? Why cant it come closer to the city instead of further away?

I have been an ATT customer before and loved the service.  We recently moved and due to no fiber optic cables in the neighborhood, I can't get service in the new place.  Is there any way to request this?  Is a response more likely if I collect signatures from my neighbors?  Currently I'm stuck with Cox Communications and they are the worst about ripping people off and provide a mediocre product.

So my neighborhood has been recently built within the past 2 years so we all have directv and att internet. The problem is, the max internet we can receive is the att 18 Mbps and I must say, is absolutely garbage. What do I need to do to get fiber ran to my house, heck I’ll pay for the digging and I’ll run the cable myself if needed. Just really fed up with the service that is available to me.

AT&T Phones\DirectTV bundle.

I've checked multiple times on Internet Service availability in my very large zip 90808

I'm told 3 things:

   1. There is no service.

(I know, hence why I am calling)

   2. Keep calling back to check on it.

(great - so I can rehash the same conversation, same account verification, same

disconnects half way thru my explaining my need, same jump thru hoops - over and over)

   3. No new information is available, call back

(You know I want service, how about you write it down, and up date me periodically)

What I want to know:

   1. Is it planned for my area?

   2. If yes: When is it going to happen?

   3. If no: What is the hold up? It is a 1/2 million population in this zip.

   4. If no: Whom can we speak with? City government, State Government - who?

Hello, I am moving into my first home in the South Bend, Indiana area in a few short weeks. I have always had a wonderful experience with ATT service at places I've lived in the past, so I of course looked up if I could receive their services at my new address. Unfortunately, there is only one internet speed available (a measly 1.5 mbps) and I can only bundle that speed with DirecTV channel lineups. I am really upset I cannot enjoy the quality of service and amazing customer care and pricing ATT offers its customers, being at this new address. I have checked the ATT availability site, as well as read a press release from April 2017 saying there would be fiber coming to the South Bend area, but there was no estimated date or coverage area denoted within that press release. Now my fiancé and I will have to settle for Comcast, which we both absolutely HATE, and will have to pay more for lesser quality service. Can someone tell me if there is any way to request ATT Uverse be made available in my neighborhood? Or is there any hope for it being brought into my area? I am really disappointed because just a few blocks away, Uverse packages are available at varying levels of speed and channel lineups (I know because we looked at many houses in the area and ATT service was one of the first things we checked on for each address and we home shopped within a very tight 2-mile radius), but not at my new home.

Thank you!
