Getting faster internet service

We just moved into a rural area that is only serviced by AT&T and the only service we can get is 6mbps DSL branded U-verse. The lines down the street on the poles are not in the greatest shape (2 day outage due to insulation having rubbed off between my pair and someone else’s). After talking with our neighbors they have slow service as well.

Is is there someone locally (or not) I can talk to about getting some form of faster service? We all know running fiber is expensive (we’re about a mile off a known fiber route) and would be ok signing contracts etc to get better service but talking to customer service seems useless (they told me they didn’t even offer service when the previous owner had service there).

I work from home, and my aunt who is building down the street both work from home so we may be down with getting a business connection too.

Hey @skotman01 we understand the want for better service, I personally live somewhere where I wish I could get better speeds myself.

AT&T is constantly striving to expand their coverage in new areas. You can see check the availability of your area to see what's provided to you.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

well that did not answer this question, because she/he/them already know what is available for her/him/them. she/he/they already stated that in here. what they needed to know is if it is possible to get  fiber?

Note date on original post.

When you're in your 60s & people ask you to do something, you just say "No".  No reason.  No excuse.  No explanation.  I can't wait for my 70s.  I don't think I'll even answer.   -  Jerry Seinfeld

honestly I feel like that was a copy/paste answer based on some key words in my original post because I've gotten the EXACT same answer from Twitter, Facebook messenger and now here. I've checked the site and as mentioned in my original post the ONLY wire line service AT&T provides out here is DSL branded u-verse.

To add insult to injury, I just found out I'm under a promotion for that 6mbps DSL, and when it expires I'll be paying...wait for it...$110/month!! That's enough for me to begin writing letters to my state reps, the FCC and FTC, all while building a tower, becoming my own WISP and competing directly with AT&T.

So I ask again, how can I find someone locally (39470) to talk intelligently to about the prospects of getting better service out here. I live (I'd be next to the end of the line) 4500 feet from the AT&T fiber run, and there are at least 10-15 houses on the path to me that would happily pay for faster service.

Hey there @skotman01,

When you check for availability, it should pop up with an option to sign up via email for notifications when fiber service is available in your area. As stated previously we are continually expanding our coverage to new areas. You can see some of the cities we are currently working on, and future cities we plan to work on using our AT&T Fiber Coverage Map. We hope this helps!

There is no one you could have access to....

If your subscription is going to $110 you have a business plan not a residential plan. Need to cancel the service when rate increases, return gateway. May then sign up for residential service for a new 12 month promotion (6M, $40) and hopefully can do a self install ($35 activation) instead of a full tech install ($99).

In my experience, residential service set up as business is because of a pre existing service at that address that has not been cancelled. Cannot have two residential accounts at same address thus 2nd one has to be setup for enterprise business, gets same new customer promotion but after promo will be much higher.

There was no existing service when I ordered. AT&T wouldn’t let me even place my order until the previous owner canceled. I wasn’t given an option of business vs residential, but it is a business connection.

Canceling and re-ordering isn’t an option as I’m sure it would take at least a week for them to process it, and since I work from home that’s a no go.

This is the ATT I’m used to. Unwilling to work with customers who want to increase their subscriber count, and no person to talk to. Ugh!
