Fiber internet

I have my utilities marked in my rural neighborhood. The water company had them marked all the down the road that flows into mine and mine. AT&T has started drilling on the upper road that goes into mine. They have stopped working but they have a big role orange of conduit in a parking lot at the end of the upper road. Will they work on my road? I need the service because as of now I have AT&T dsl not U-verse, I have DSL it’s only 5 mbps down and not even 1 up load I also have an AT&T hotspot. I need the fiber will I get it?

Hi there, Karatewomack! Thank you for your interest in AT&T Fiber Internet.  We are sure glad that you reached out us.

The questions that you have asked are really not able to be answered. The reason why is, that there can be a lot of factors that can interfere with someone getting service. There are lot of factors to list.

So the first thing that we are going to have you do is, check the AT&T Fiber Coverage Map.

If your area is "green" for AT&T Fiber, then you will be able to place your order by using the "Shop" link, which is located in the breadcrumbs at the top of the page right above the blue "Check Availability" box.

We do hope that we gain you as an AT&T Family member soon!

Thank you for using the AT&T Community Forums.

Only time will time…

but looking at some of your statements….

my rural neighborhood

upper road that connects to mine

ATT DSL not Uverse

5 down less than 1 up

In November 2012 the company stated 75% of all addresses within then footprint would be UVERSE while 25% where not economically feasible would be service by 4G LTE

Since then the numbers seem to to be more 80% / 20%

During this phase 2 (5) year fiber build out (2021 to end 2026) primarily new construction projects and Uverse FTTN areas (fiber to the node) with internet 25 or better will receive fiber.

Notable some ADSL2+ areas where upgraded to FTTP, these are addresses with 18/1 or less.

Note all Uverse addresses have 1T data cap, legacy DSL I believe is 150G data cap.

The main road having fiber buried may or may not be residential fiber…

is there a big subdivision, apartment / condo complexes, business park, cell tower that could have the fiber being deployed.

In my opinion from above statements your ability to have future fiber in next 2 years is less than 5% unless willing to relocate to where the fiber already exists, about 17.5 million addresses end 2021 out of my estimate of 74 million… 60 million are Uverse based hardwired while 14 million are legacy DSL, cell tower hotspot locations.

edit… summary by 2026 of 90+ markets within 21 states

50% of Uverse addresses (30 million) will be direct fiber

50% of Uverse FTTN / ADSL2+ (30 million) will still have existing option

20% of all addresses (15 million) will be cellular based hotspot or fixed wireless.

Hopefully there will be a phase 3 2026-2030.

There are no subdivisions or apartments or cell towers but there is a business that already has AT&T fiber maybe a few miles up the road from us. There are hand holes along the road. I want to know if the service will get to me. I am pretty much certain it will be residential service because it would not make sense for them to just run fiber to somewhere and not allow for residents to connect. The reason I believe it has a possibility to get to my street is because the are water meters for every home marked on my street as well as the one that just got fiber installed. I also want have another question will I get service if the Hand hole is on the opposite side of the road from my home if so how would that work? There are no poles they could hang it on near by.

Hi, Karatewomack.

Here is more information on when AT&T Fiber is going to be available to you.

We suggest that you fill out the form so that they can research your address, and get you more information on when Fiber is going to be available at your home.

IF fiber is brought down your street on the other side but your side is turned green for service means local burial crew will need to bore under the road to provide connection before service can be installed.

The waiting game is to see if the fiber is brought down your street.

Having water meter markings is to alert crews to be careful.
