Packet Bursts

For the past few months, I have had random packet bursts dropping my internet for a few seconds or a few minutes. The packet burst usually happens every 20-30 minutes. AT&T has sent out 2 technicians that have swapped out my routers, and neither fixed the issue. The issue started after AT&T came out and rewired outside, and have not fixed the issue since. I have swapped the ethernet cable as well. This is all an issue while hardwired and wireless. My speedtest is fine, the issue is just annoying having a disconnect every 20-30 minutes because of packet burst. I have tested it all on my end. The issue started when AT&T came out and changed wiring outside. Anyone know a fix?

Hey @GlennK4127, we understand how important it is to have a high speed internet, and we're happy to assist!

Our High Ping & Latency Guide also has some great tips to try to isolate these problems. guide also has some great steps and tips to try to figure out the problem. You may have to disconnect all devices but one and test them one at a time. VPNs in particular can cause issues throughout your network.

Using multiple devices but don’t need internet access for all of them at the same time? You can prioritize, pause, or block internet access to your device. You can use this process to prioritize which devices get the strongest signal in your network.

  1. Select the device you wish to prioritize and choose Prioritize device. The device will have the best internet access for up to two hours.
  2. When you’re ready to change priorities, choose End priority.

Lastly, resetting your Gateway may get this issue fixed too.

Let us know how it goes!
Feel free to reach out to us for further assistance.

Thank you,

Ever get this issue fixed? It sounds similar to mine and some others I've been looking through. Trying to make up my mind about yeeting at&t and swapping to verizon/comcast. Been having this issue for about a month now. Has made WFH and live service leisure activities unusable as a result.
