Optimal Setup with Eero and NAS?

We moved and subscribed with AT&T for fiber service (500MBps). The modem is currently installed in my office. I have an eero pro router, TPLINK gigabyte switch, and Synology D220+ NAS. Right now, I have the modem running into the switch, which then routes to my PC and the eero. The NAS is connected to the eero. As of now, my PC can't connect to the NAS.

I was going to bridge the modem to my eero, but AT&T requires an IP pass through. First, do I have the correct sequence of equipment hooked up? And second, would doing an IP pass through to the eero router likely solve the issue of my PC being able to detect wireless devices?

Thanks in advance!

1) If the Eero is not running in Access Point (or "bridge" mode), then you have two different IP networks in your house that are not routing between each other.  So your PC cannot see devices connected to the Eero, and vice versa.

2) You should probably connect the Eero directly to the Gateway, and connect the switch to the Eero, because you shouldn't need a lot of connections to the Gateway.  This would move your PC to where it could see the NAS (as soon as it performs a DHCP request to the eero to get an IP).

3) IP Passthrough on the BGW 210 performs essentially like "bridge mode."  Set that up using the DHCP-fixed setting and choosing the Eero as the target device.  Then reboot both.

4) You probably want to disable the Wi-Fi on the Gateway to keep it from interfering with the eero's Wi-Fi (and because it's a separate network).

Hi @leecarver, we are happy to help with your networking concerns.

Thank you @JefferMC, for those great points.

The IP Passthrough feature allows a single PC on the LAN to have the AT&T Gateway's public address assigned to it.

  • It also provides port address translation (PAT) or network address and port translation (NAPT) via the same public IP address for all other hosts on the private LAN subnet.

Using IP Passthrough, the public WAN IP is used to provide IP address translation for private LAN computers.

If you have any additional concerns, please feel free to reach out to us.

Layfette, thank you for your post, though I think it might be more confusing than helpful.

Thank you, Jeffer. I made the adjustment using your suggestion and the basic directions AT&T provided (although they are not updated to account for this modem). I've been slowly working through the challenges of getting my wireless devices identified and accessible by my wired desktop, but everything seems to be working now.
