Installation Across 3 properties

Fiber just became available in my neighborhood and I signed up as soon as the email was sent out. The technician came to install the new line and he dropped the line across neighbor 1's yard, then all the way across my yard, into my other neighbor's yard (beyond my house), across their driveway then routed it back to my house, Under my back deck (which is being built, noticably), then placed the outside fiber box on a part of my house that is under construction. Then he left a roll of fiber cable just laying in my backyard.

I would like the fiber line to stay on my property because going my my neighbor's yard is just a messy overkill. Further, the old AT&T line is on the side of my house and is a great place to mount the new one. It is the shortest path to the fiber utility box and the path of least resistance. There are at least 5 mature trees that are within feet of my home whose roots would need to be cut to burry this line, as is.

The technician just cut the old phone cables (and left them there, along with the old box) then mounted the new box in a very poorly thought out position. So that he could just drill a hole straight through my house. I called the 1-800 number that was sent to me in the text chain that AT&T sent before the technician came and the gentleman could not help me.

My neighbor 2 is trying to sell their house and their yard guy picked up the line and dropped it back on my property. I understand, but now we have a ton of fiber line just snaking across our yard. The technician was excited to be done with our job very fast though. He let me know that he felt less challenged than he thought he would and he left an hour and a half after he arrived.

I'm not sure how to put in a request or ticket to get this mess done more professionally.

Hey there @GreenHouseOnLeft. We understand your frustration and would be happy to help with the fiber lines going across your yard.

We would suggest that you reach out to our representative at our Buried Wire Center, and they will be able to raise a ticket to have someone come out. You can reach them at 800-288-2020 or at 800-924-9420 for any tickets that are already opened from Mondy through Friday betwen 8am-6pm ET.

Please reach back out if you have any further questions. Thank you for contacting the AT&T Community Forums.

The individual sounds as if a new hire just starting to be on their own…

The tech should have created a buried wire request that will resolve the excessive wiring issue once buried, will be either shortened or replaced altogether.

For me is the location of the NID, all inside work is completed, correct? Which means relocating the NID will require a separate tech appointment (repair) that you will need to call and schedule.

Is the an issue in following existing inside wiring such as everything finished (drywalled)… our Midwest area has basements, as long as can access the needed areas can run the wiring inside… if no access the either doing a house wrap with wiring secured to outside or as the tech did, run the outside wiring direct to side where the ONT will be placed.

Each job is different but certain things have to happen such as…

drop from terminal to NID placement

inside wiring to ONT and/ or gateway location

equipment installed and activated

final testing, clean up

Depending on several different factors installs can be less than an hour (pre wired MDU) to 4+ hours… I normally figured 2.5 hours without knowing what needs to be done, quote 3 during pre call meaning if expect to arrive at 11 am looking at 2 pm as possible finish… if customer needs to leave by 1 pm need to consider rescheduling or have someone 18 or older at home during these hours.

Amazing how many installs do and customer told it will only take half hour to change the gateway without consideration of running all new wiring inside and outside.

I appreciate your explanation @my thoughts. I have a crawl space that the previous AT&T technician, who installed my DSL, used to wire from the terminal attached to the outside of my house to the phone jack in my living room. The fiber installation technician drilled directly through my cedar wood paneling from the outside so there was no drywall clean up.

Will the guys who bury the wire also shorten the excess fiber cable or do I need to call for a technician to come out and do that?

Honestly, if they give me issues about cleaning up this mess then I'm going to just bury the line and wrap it around the house myself so I can make this mess as clean as possible.

Thanks for reaching AT&T community forums with your questions @GreenHouseOnLeft.

Thanks for the support and information provided @my thoughts.

The guy that comes to bury the cable will be able to bury the excess fiber cable on your yard.

Reach our Buried wire center to report exposed wires.

Please feel free to reach out again if you have other questions.
