Install VPN on BGW210-700

The AT&T tech support just told me my router (BGW210-700) was VPN ready and should have no problem to install VPN on it. However I have read on this forum that this model is not setup for VPN. Apparently the only work around is adding a secondary VPN dedicated router (which may significantly reduce speed). Tech support could not give me any more help or direction. Does anyone know if this AT&T router is VPN compatible and if so, how do you set it up?

We are here to help you with your gateway, @coniver.

Our gateways are not set up to run the VPN, as you already stated. We recommend that you get a third party gateway and then set up IP Passthrough from your AT&T gateway. This will allow you to use the VPN and set it up any way that you want.

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks for the input.
The tech support from yesterday mentioned that she opened a new port and the router is now enabled with the new port configuration. And she gave me an IP address for when the VPN server is started. She said since only one port was added it will automatically connect to the system.
Unfortunately I am a newbie to VPN and this leaves me confused. Does this information from AT&T tech support make sense to you? Is it possible that the router is in fact ready for a VPN installation (without a secondary router)?

I appreciate any insight you may have. Thanks!

Hi, @coniver.

As far as we know, your gateway can't run the VPN by itself, which is why you would need the secondary gateway and IP Passthrough enabled.

If you have any more questions or concerns on this, we recommend that you contact our Connect tech team as they more prepared to help you with your third party setup questions.

If you have any other questions or concerns in the future, feel free to reach back out.

Thank you for choosing AT&T.
